Whenever I think about how i'm going to pay hefty bills, cover the rents, fuel the cars, make sure there's electricity for my family to sleep better at night, send my kids to the best schools and give them the good life that I never had; it gives me a million reasons why I cannot afford to marry WRONG. Not because I need someone who will come and share the rents with me, but because I need a peaceful, loyal and loving wife who will motivate me to go out and fight for her everyday.

... Same woman whose fear and reverence for the Lord will stand in the gap for me in those moment where I am too distracted to hear God for myself.

YES THAT KIND OF WOMAN!

I am the kind who will never hang with the boys at the bar until late, sleep out for no reason she doesn't approve, will do all it takes to come back home to my loving wife.

I am the kind who will never sleep in a separate room because of unforgiveness, or make the bed cold by laying with my wife angry.

I am the kind who will never eat outside my wife's cooking, work hard to be home early for dinner, and appreciate her efforts no matter the taste.

I am a Proverbs 31:23 kind; a husband who will rub her feet in hot water with lemon and honey, jump out of the closet in a sexy gucci underwear, give her a back massage in the shower, and you know the rest mushy mushy, halleluyah! .

No matter how much we try to cover our wounds and hide our pain, Saint Raphael, the patron saint of healing sees it all and he is calling upon us to accept his provision for our spiritual medical needs.

There are various spiritual medical conditions that we suffer and the most common include but not limited to:

Lack of Faith Syndrome – This is a condition where the patient fails to trust and submit fully to God his creator. The most common symptom of this medical condition is that the patient begins to question God for unanswered prayers and fails to acknowledge that God has his own schedule and time to handle everything according to his will.
Hypocrisy Virus – This is a common virus that spreads among christians where the patients pretend to be staunch believers yet their actions are different from their words. They pretend to love God yet they have unmatched hatred for their neighbors.
The provider of our medical needs appeals to us to accept when we are wounded and sick so that we may receive treatment from him.

Heal Your Wounds
Once we accept that we are wounded and we stop hiding our spiritual medical needs, then we are ready to have the patron saint of healing come into our life to heal us. Healing can never occur if we fail to acknowledge our illness and be ready to begin spiritual treatment. Sometimes the reason we fail to acknowledge that we are in need of spiritual medical needs is because we think that our wounds are too deep to be healed, thus we feel that there is no hope for us.

We get to begin the healing process by acknowledging that we are sinners and repenting our sins. Repentance is not just a mere act of confessing out loud the sins that we have committed but it is a soul-searching process where one has to get into deep thought about their actions and the impact of those actions towards God as well as other people.

Once we understand the implications of our sins, we make a resolve not to commit such actions again and pray that God grants us the grace to keep from near occasions of sin. If we have wronged others, the healing process involves seeking forgiveness from them and making resolutions that will enable us not to acquire the same wound again.

Take Refuge
Just as we run towards buildings when it rains to take refuge, we are called upon to take refuge in God whenever we are faced by the storms of spiritual illnesses for he is our eternal healer. When we take refuge in God, we are assured that no matter the number of outbreaks that occur or the viciousness of the spiritual virus variants, no harm will befall us for in him nothing bad can happen to us.

Like the prodigal son in the bible, many are the times we get spiritually ill yet our father who is God has all the medical supplies capable of restoring us back to health. We distance ourselves from him yet he is the only refuge and solution in our life that we need. Saint Raphael is pleading with us today to let go of any fear of rejection that we harbor for God can never abandon us.

Even when he appears to be angry at us for running away from him, his unending love for us exceeds the anger. We would rather be under his wing as slaves rather than been far away from him for he is the only refuge we can go to when we feel the need to consult a spiritual medical practioneer.

“O patron saint of healing, I have hidden my wounds too deep and consoled myself that I can handle it all yet it seems as though I am wearing out.

I plead with you to grant me healing for you are the provider of all my medical needs.

You are the solution to my long-term spiritual illness and I beseech thee to intercede for me that God may accept me back under his wing where I intend to take refuge forever.”

Did the Early Church Believe in Purgatory?

Purgatory is often misunderstood—even by Catholics. Some think it's a later invention, but the truth is: the belief in Purgatory is rooted in the earliest centuries of Christianity. While the term "Purgatory" itself developed over time, the idea of a purifying state after death was present in the teachings, prayers, and practices of the Early Church.

Scriptural Foundation
The foundation for Purgatory lies in Scripture. In 2 Maccabees 12:45, Judas Maccabeus offers prayers for fallen soldiers, stating that it is a “holy and pious thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.” This shows a belief that the dead can be helped by the prayers of the living—a concept central to Purgatory.

Jesus also hinted at purification after death in Matthew 12:32, saying, “Anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” This suggests that some sins can be forgiven after death, which aligns with the Church’s teaching on Purgatory.

The Witness of the Early Church Fathers
The early Christians continued this practice. Tertullian (2nd–3rd century) wrote about praying for the dead and offering the Eucharist on their behalf. He believed such prayers were effective in helping the souls of the departed.

St. Cyprian of Carthage (3rd century) emphasized the importance of offering sacrifices for the faithful departed during Mass. St. Augustine openly declared in the 4th century: “It is not to be doubted that the souls of the dead are aided by the prayers of the holy Church.”

These saints didn’t see death as a full stop, but as a journey toward perfection, where the soul could be cleansed to enter the full presence of God.

Why Does Purgatory Matter?
The doctrine of Purgatory doesn’t undermine the forgiveness won by Jesus—it affirms God’s mercy and justice. Those who die in a state of grace but still need purification of lesser sins are lovingly prepared for heaven. Purgatory is not a punishment—it is a gift of God’s purifying love.

Belief in Purgatory reminds us of our connection to the souls of the faithful departed, and calls us to pray for them, just as the early Christians did.

Purgatory is not new—it’s part of the ancient faith of our Church.

A narcissist wants you to forgive and forget, to move on, and to let it go, so they can escape accountability and apologies, and keep treating you in the same manner. They don't want to do the work it takes to change their rude, hurtful, negative, controlling, bullying, or manipulative behaviors. They want to blame you, sweep it under the rug, and pretend the conflict never happened. They want to police your emotions and feelings, have power and control, be right, micromanage everyone around them, and feel superior. Acting like a mature, healthy adult, introspecting, self-reflecting, and taking accountability for how they treated you are not things they are capable of.

To a narcissist, your pain is an inconvenience, your boundaries are a threat, and your voice is something to silence. They aren't interested in building healthy relationships; they’re focused on maintaining dominance and image. When you try to address issues, they gaslight, deflect, or minimize your experience. They might offer hollow apologies, not out of remorse, but as a tactic to reset the cycle and regain control. Forgiveness, to them, is a license to continue hurting you. Their version of "moving on" is erasure—erasing your truth, your wounds, and your right to heal.

Healing from narcissistic abuse means resisting their narrative. It means holding onto your truth, your emotions, and your right to closure, even when they deny it. It means refusing to normalize disrespect just to keep the peace. Don’t let them convince you that your standards are the problem. You’re not too sensitive, too emotional, or too difficult. You’re a human being deserving of respect, safety, and authentic connection. Narcissists will never admit fault, because doing so would shatter the illusion they cling to. But you don’t need their validation to stand firm in your reality.
