  • Renaming Controversy: Should Anambra State Retaliate Against Lagos' Decision?

A debate has sparked in Anambra State regarding the potential renaming of "Prof Wole Soyinka" street. This comes after Lagos State changed the names of some Igbo streets and bus stops to Yoruba names.

The question on many minds is: should Anambra State retaliate by renaming the street honoring the renowned Yoruba professor and Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka?

While some argue that renaming the street would be a justified response to Lagos State's actions, others believe it would perpetuate a cycle of retaliation and ethnic tension.

  • And to think Esther Okoronkwo came into this Nigerian team “through the window” (according to her).
She was never officially invited, the Falcons had issues during a friendly tourney in the U.S., and they needed anyone available to fill the gaps and that gave birth to the trio of Esther Okoronkwo, Alozie and Echegini.

This is what a good coach will offer and even more, Randy Waldrum forced the NFF to organise a friendly tournament even when home based Falcons didn't have their visas ready on time for the trip. Imagine if he didn't bring that idea and forced the NFF to implement it today we would be seeing Alozie, Okoronkwo and Echegini playing for the US national team..

  • Switched from Malawi to Nigeria—and won WAFCON

Chioma Okafor was born in Malawi to a Malawian mother and a Nigerian father. Just a year ago, she had hoped to represent Malawi but never received a call-up. After moving to the USA, she caught the attention of the Nigerian FA which led her to reject a last minute call-up from Malawi.

Nigeria’s coach Justin Madugu included her in his final WAFCON squad. Today, she is an African champion despite not playing at the tournament due to injury.

At the beginning, Yomi Davies by the left is seen with Salawa Abeni, aged 9 with her promoter Alh Lati Adepoju the owner of the Leader Records who later married her. At that age, Salawa was doing -house help job but her bosses noticed that from the morning till she slept, she would be singing Batili Alake with a sonorous voice. So, they connected her with Lati. Salawa Abeni's first album: Gen Murtala Mohammed, made her. She became extremely popular and the Cowries started pouring in and she became extremely beautiful and black.

    The rest is history.

  • Renowned/Award winning FIFA referee, Salima Mukansanga, was in charge of VAR last night in the WAFCON final match between host country, Morocco vs Nigeria.

Salima is not the type of referee to overlook just any act, much less in a more crucial game like the final match of the just concluded tournament.

About VAR cancelling the penalty, the center referee, no offence, did a marvelous job with the officiating and was fair with both sides, but what she had seen as handball, was in deed not handball.

Now let me state the handball rules in football.

“According to latest IFAB handball rules of FIFA, if the ball touches a player’s hand while the hand is vertical/parallel and behind the player’s trunk, it will not count as a penalty.

Another reason why that call was void by VAR, was because the Moroccan player was too close to the Nigerian player, hence it counted as a hand to ball instead of ball to hand.

Look at this photo clearly. It would only take en experienced referee to make a decision, and this was where Salima Mukansanga showed her prowess.

Thank you Salima for making the right call.
We’ve also known you to be fair and just.

  • Joelinton went in hard on Max Dowman, probably thinking he’d show the youngster what Premier League intensity feels like. But what followed was a masterclass from the 15-year-old. Instead of being rattled, Dowman responded with confidence, control, and a fearless attitude that turned heads.

For the next 20 minutes, he completely flipped the script — gliding past players, carrying the ball with purpose, and making sharp, mature decisions in the final third. It wasn’t just about flair — there was intelligence in every touch. He looked like he belonged, not just as a prospect, but as a real threat.

This kid isn’t just talented — he’s composed, creative, and already showing signs of being special. If what we saw was just a glimpse, then Arsenal fans should be excited. Max Dowman is going to make his mark this season.

  • Ohanaeze Ndigbo Condemns Bill Elevating Ooni of Ife, Sultan of Sokoto

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has strongly condemned a bill before the Nigerian Senate seeking to permanently elevate the Ooni of Ife and Sultan of Sokoto as co-chairmen of the Traditional Rulers Council.

The group considers the bill a slap in the face, as it excludes apex traditional rulers from Igbo land and other ethnic nationalities. Ohanaeze Ndigbo views the move as asymmetric, discriminatory, and ethnocentric, lacking fairness, equity, justice, and federal character.

Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, the group's national publicity secretary, called for the bill's urgent withdrawal and review, considering ethnic differences, cultural sensitivity, geopolitical balance, inclusive governance, and equitable representation.

Chukwu emphasized that the bill's passage would undermine national unity, peaceful coexistence, and social stability.

Meanwhile, social media influencer and politician Nwobo Chika Nwoba stated that only three kingdoms exist in the Southeast Igbo region: Onitsha, Arochukwu, and Nri. He argued that no kingdoms exist in Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States, and that autonomous communities cannot be considered kingdoms.

Once A Gooner Is Always A Gonner! ⚪️

Her Profile Below Isn’t Only Overwhelming but also Intimidating!
She has won virtually everything to be won in Football. She’s Arguably the most decorated Female Athlete & Footballer from Nigeria .

Her Names are Asisat Lamina Oshoala. She’s a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a striker for National Women's Soccer League club Bay FC and the Super Falcons Nigeria national team.

There are some uncomfortable discussions I am willing to have when this woman finally retires.

We all grew up wanting to ball like some African idols like Eto, Drogba, Jay Jay, Kanu, etc. I tell you, almost every young African female footballer looks up to this lady right here.

Her achievements are so loud that she doesn't need to speak for herself. It speaks for her.

  • Sowore Condemns Renaming of Charly Boy Bus Stop, Says No Tribe Owns Lagos More Than Its Residents

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist, has criticized the renaming of the Charly Boy Bus Stop in Lagos, stating that the move is an attempt to erase the legacy of Charly Boy, a renowned musician and activist.

Sowore argued that Lagos is not a kingdom, but a city belonging to its residents, regardless of their ethnic background. He emphasized that the Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, and other ethnic groups have contributed to the city's growth and greatness.

Sowore condemned the diatribe written by Mrs. Ebunola Adebusoye, who claimed that Charly Boy does not deserve a bus stop in Lagos due to his alleged misconduct. Sowore described her statement as xenophobic, politically cowardly, and ethnically biased.

He questioned Adebusoye's claims, highlighting the importance of verifying facts before making public statements. Sowore also criticized her attack on his educational background and his organization, Sahara Reporters.

The activist emphasized that true revolutionaries deserve honor, not scorn, from their people. He accused Adebusoye of promoting ethnic purity and attempting to erase the legacy of Charly Boy, who has fought for justice and human rights in Nigeria.

Sowore concluded by stating that Lagos belongs to all its residents, regardless of their ethnic background, and that no tribe owns the city more than those who live in it and contribute to its growth.

  • The love is felt and received globally, Victor Gyokeres is a proper Gunner and truely one of our own.

We'll stand by this guy, through the good and bad time at Arsenal, for the fact that; you can never take away his charming smile of being a Gunner and his hunger to make sure Arsenal get over the line in the coming season.

Players come and go, but for me; Gyokeres will live a Gunner in my eyes for lifetime.

I can't wait to see him started and we may probably see his debut in North London friendly derby against Tottenham.

I salute your courage and convictions Victor, for what you and your family pass through; just because you only want to play for Arsenal.

Ones a Gunner, is always a Gunner.

Come on you Arsenal, head up; now or never.

  • “BIAFRA REGARDS ALL YORUBA LAND FRIENDS”.
A LETTER OF OJUKWU TO LT. COL.VICTOR BANJO TO CAPTURE AND LIBERATE MIDWEST AND WESTERN REGION, 22ND AUGUST 1967

    My dear Victor,

    1. For some time now, you and I have been discussing the circumstances that have led to the current and inevitable disintegration of what was the Federation of Nigeria. We have been fully convinced that the aim of the Hausa/Fulani complex has ever been, and will ever remain, the total domination of every other part of what was known as the Federation of Nigeria. It is impossible to forget that the crisis which led to the army take over in January 1966, the coup of the Northern soldiers led by Gowon in July 1966, the wholesale and indiscriminate massacre of the people of what is now Biafra- and, to a less degree, the people of the Mid-West and West, including the Yorubas, were all the direct result of Hausa/Fulani attempt to subjugate and use as tools, the gallant people of Western Nigeria namely the Yorubas. We do not need to remind ourselves of the heavy losses in life and property suffered by the Yoruba people in their fight for justice and freedom during 1965.

    2. Sharing.our belief that the people of Yorubaland have a right to live a life of equality and self-respect and justice free of domination and dictatorship from any quarter, you have both identified with the cause of the Biafra struggle for survival and expressed your determination to see the people of Yorubaland freed from Hausa/Fulani domination. We, the people of Biafra, for our part are willing and have decided to give you and the people of Yorubaland every assistance to achieve your aim.

    3. After clearing the whole question with my Executive Council, I, as the Commander in Chief of the Biafran Armed Forces, have decided to place at your disposal Biafran forces, for the liberation of Yorubaland on the following clear conditions:-

    (i) You will have nothing to do with the Military Administrator in the Mid-West Territory during your sojourn there prior to your move to the West.

(ii) The willingness and preparedness of Biafra to assist any part of the former Federation of Nigeria wishing and willing to liberate itself from the Hausa/Fulani domination, does not in anyway whatever imply any inclination on her part to compromise her sovereignty or preserve what remains of the defunct Federation of Nigeria. In other words, our sovereignty and break with Nigeria is irrevocable. Nothing must, therefore be said or done by you or any member of the Liberation Army to give a contrary impression.

(iii) Biafra is determined to maintain and safeguard her sovereignty and ensure that her integrity and safety are never again threatened.

(iv) Biafran troops will, after the liberation of the Yorubaland, remain in that territory only for as long as we in Biafra consider it necessary for the Yorubas to consolidate their position and sovereignty against any external threat.

    (v) On the liberation of the Yorubaland, you will be appointed as the Military Governor of that territory.

(vi) The liberation of Western Nigeria will be a prelude to the liberation of all Yorubas up to the River Niger and the severance of all connections between the West and the North at Jebba.

(vii) During the period of Biafrans troops’ presence in your territory, all political measures, statements or decrees shall be subject to the approval, in writing by myself or on my authority.

(viii) Should our troops arrive and liberate Lagos, the government of the Republic of Biafra reserves the right to appoint a Military administrator for the territory. Such an Administrator will remain in office until a merger of that territory with Yorubaland is effected by Biafran troops.

(ix) As soon as possible after your appointment as the Military Governor of Western Nigeria and separation of that territory from Nigeria, you and I must meet to discuss: (a) the duration of stay of Biafran troops in your territory; (b) the areas and subjects of cooperation between the liberated sovereign states of Western Nigeria, or by what name it may call itself, and Biafra.

    4. I do not need to remind you that Biafra regards all Yoruba as friends. As such everything should be done, to ensure the minimum force and loss of life are involved in achieving the objective of liberation.

    5. It is essential, in order to avoid misunderstanding or confusion, that all subsequent requests for support be formally made to me by you in writing.

    6. Will you please signify in writing, your acceptance of the above conditions so that you may leave for Western Nigeria and lead the army of liberation.

    Yours very sincerely,

    Lt. Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu,
Military Governor and Commander in Chief of Biafran Armed Forces.

Culled from "A Break in the Silence : Lt. Col. Victor Adebukunola Banjo", by Adetowun Ogunsheye, Spectrum Books, Ibadan, 2001".

Yours very sincerely, Lt. Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu, Military Governor and Commander in Chief of Biafran Armed Forces. Culled from "A Break in the Silence : Lt. Col. Victor Adebukunola Banjo", by Adetowun Ogunsheye, Spectrum Books, Ibadan, 2001".

  • Like father, like daughter. Reports say Esther Okoronkwo of the Super Falcons is the daughter of Isaac Okoronkwo, former Super Eagles star.

Isaac Okoronkwo was a teammate of Jay-Jay Okocha, Celestine Babayaro and Kanu Nwakwo.

Super Eagles had some of the best players in history at that time.

  • VON STATEMENT ON FALSE WAFCON REPORT!

Dear Esteemed Nigerians and Friends of Voice of Nigeria,

On behalf of the management and staff of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who reached out with concern, support, and constructive feedback following the regrettable publication on our website on the night of Saturday, 26th July 2025, regarding the WAFCON 2025 Final between Nigeria and Morocco.

The erroneous report, which prematurely and falsely announced a Nigerian loss before the conclusion of the match, was both inaccurate and deeply unfortunate. Voice of Nigeria aligns with this historic moment, as our Super Falcons mounted a courageous comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3–2, securing a record-extending tenth WAFCON title and affirming their place at the pinnacle of African women’s football.

We sincerely apologize for the misinformation and the confusion it caused. The integrity of our journalism is paramount, and we take this incident seriously. While initial reviews pointed to an internal lapse, we are also investigating the possibility of a security breach or identity theft through hacking, which may have contributed to this disturbing development. As a public institution, we cannot rule out such cyber threats and are taking appropriate steps to enhance the security of our digital platforms.

It is important to clarify that while internal editorial processes are being reviewed and strengthened, we are not placing sole responsibility on any individual staff member, including the sports reporter initially associated with the story. Rather, this episode underscores the need for comprehensive institutional safeguards to prevent such occurrences in the future.

As part of our ongoing internal reforms, we have introduced key editorial structures, including an Investigative Desk, a Fact-Checking Unit, and a Monitoring and Evaluation Team. We have also undertaken strategic staff redeployments to enhance accountability, build resilience, and boost editorial efficiency across our platforms.

These reforms reflect our broader commitment to repositioning VON as a more responsive, transparent, and globally respected media institution. At Voice of Nigeria, we embrace the responsibility that comes with being Nigeria’s official international broadcaster. We remain steadfast in our dedication to our three pillars: People, Platform, and Partnership.

We are deeply thankful for your engagement. Your voices remind us that accountability is not a burden—it is a cornerstone of public service.

Once again, thank you for standing with us not just in times of national celebration, but also when we are called to reflect, correct, and improve.

    Warm regards,

‎It was first screened for a little token at Tinuade Cinema in Oworonshoki before it was released in videos and sold across the country.

‎The beginnings of the video film market in Nigeria is traced back to the 1980s when television productions thrived. There was currency devaluation and a bàn on imports in Nigeria these issùes affècted film making industry as equipment and tools became too expensive, VHS (Video Home System) was the option for many television productions back then, leading to the development of a small scale informal video trade. This method was adopted and built on by producers and distributors at Alaba market to reinvent the film industry which was at the time facing a major dècline. Even the current pillar of Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes is from Portuguese League and Sporting CP also, so Manchester United fans should look for another reason to talk down on Viktor Gyokeres!

  • People don't understand the undertone

    Okpebholo can't threaten a Kwankwaso

    He can't threaten Atiku

    He can't dare elrufai

    But he can trample Obi

    Obi is fair game

    He is Igbo

    Behind the scenes

    In their closets

Many bigots who moonlight as democrats

Who occupy high offices in this land

    Will clap for Okpebholo

He has voiced out what they murmur in their bedrooms

Onanuga told the Igbo nit to bother about voting in lagos in 2027

He can't tell the same thing to the Hausa

He can't dare the Fulani in Lagos

    Igbo is bushmeat

Against them every weakling, every hustler

    Shows his savagery

We had seen Fr Alia threaten Obi

A man who has no guts to speak about the killer herdsmen and local militants groups ravaging his state

A literal sissy of a Reverend father

We have seen him turn a pugnacious area boy against Obi

Obi is an easy target because of his ethnic group

When an Igbo man is attacked or humiliated like that

All Igbo are put in their right place

Don't think that the Olodo of Edo called Okpebholo is threatening Obi for personal political advantage

He is threatening Obi to please Tinubu.

    Edo was purchased for him

He must show loyalty by delivering the state at all costs

And threatening Obi must be the sort of sport Tinubu likes

That is why all the garrulous men around him revel in it

Tinubu stayed aloof while the Igbo were chased away from polling units in Lagos on March 2023

He thinks highly of McOluomo, Onanuga and recently

Very recently he enjoys Reno Omokri who stopped calling him a drug baron to concentrate his lunacy around Obi and the Igbo

Tinubu is definitely enjoying the threats being issued to Obi by his unscrupulous agents

But he should know that the chickens will come home to roost soon

    When a president sows division

    He reaps katakata

This country needs a transformative and principled leadership

Not a bunch of urban political bandits running around as reformers , stealing votes and looting the country.

"Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia"

“If we reach a point where they have to join the team, they will join the team because they are our players.” said Amorim.

“I know for a fact Jason [Wilcox], Omar [Berrada], and the club have a number for these players.

“If they (clubs) don’t reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that. I understand the clubs are waiting for the last minute but they can have a surprise.”

  • Arsenal are aiming to swiftly move to secure Eberechi Eze once the deal for Viktor Gyökeres is complete. Arsenal are Eze’s top choice and those close to the player are confident a deal will be done in the next few weeks.

Arsenal are hoping to agree a fee that comes to £60m, rather than the reported £68m, although on terms that are also amenable to Crystal Palace, with suggestions that both clubs will be flexible.

Arsenal’s preference would be to sell a player before they move on to the Eze deal, but it is understood the signing is NOT contingent on that. There is also a possibility Reiss Nelson could be included in any deal.

  • We can see the beautiful relationship btw Ọọ̀ni Adesoji Aderemi with the Awujale that presided Awujale àná.
During their period Ọọ̀nirìṣà Adesoji Aderemi was the Chairman of the Southern King.
When bàbá Sikiru ascended the throne, Baba contested the position with Ọọ̀nirìṣà Aderemi, but bàbá lost the election. That was the reason why bàbá changed his lineage to Sudan in order to contest Ọọ̀nirìṣà Sijuade Olubuse II and to reject Ifẹ̀ as his root.
My question is that when we destroy our Orírùn for earthly position, what will happen to our next generation??
When you change your history that you are from Sudan, your next generation will be lost in transit because they won't know their Orírùn which is a great curse and setback for any race who turn their back on their Orírùn.
All the native founder of Ìjèbú have natives names. Probably those who came to turban them are from Sudan and they tried to manipulate those our fathers in their childhood age at Ilé Keu that they are from Sudan so that they can destroy their future heritage so that Jìhádíst can later take over our ancestors royal throne.
We are waking up and we understand their game better. We won't allow our brain to be controlled by kolonia story book again. Our source of history is fully 100% in our oral history in 256 Odù ífá

  • As a South African, I don't know much about Nigerian players, but these are my favourites. I’ve been following them for years. The class and respect they carry is unmatched. I may not know them personally, but you can tell they’re incredibly humble. I hope one day I’ll get the chance to meet them in person and shake their hands. I wouldn’t mind meeting Alozie in the USA and Ndah in South Africa. Above all, I wish this unnecessary quarrel between South Africa and Nigeria would come to an end.

  • The First 3 games in the Premier League are always Reputation building or tarnishing.

Why do you guys think i was praying for Saliba to have a stormer vs Mateta on his prem debut. He then did well, then scored a scortcher vs Bournemouth, then got praise from Van Djik and his reputation was set to date.

why was i praying? Because i saw what a bad game vs Brentford did to Ben White. Ben White has had to do it twice harder to get flowers. To this day he still has people who think he is crap and it all stemmed on a bad debut and the media coverage he got from Neville and Carragher on the day.

The First 3 games in the League are so important for any mega name!

A Gyokeres double on match Day 1 or even a goal will shut everyone up. We need that, he needs that.

One of the Super Falcons’ midfield engine! Played against South Africa despite discomfort and still rock-solid.
