  • Nigerian Army laments as south-east youths shun 2025 recruitment exercise.
The Nigerian Army has raised concern over the poor turnout of applicants from the south-east in its 2025 recruitment exercise.

Brigadier-General Chima Ekeator, who is leading the Army’s recruitment enlightenment team, disclosed the figures during a sensitisation event in Enugu on Sunday.
He said while Kaduna State has recorded over 3,000 applications, Enugu has received only about 100.

Ekeator urged young people in the region to seize the opportunity and fill the recruitment slots allocated to their states.

He said, “Our people are losing what rightly belongs to them. Each year, whenever a slot is being allocated to our people, we keep noticing that the number of applicants from our side is usually very poor.

“Take for example, Enugu State was given about 200 slots, but the people who made it were never up to 100 due to poor application. This has also become a recurring decimal in other states in the south-east.

“Today’s statistics on the number of applicants show that Kaduna has about 3,000 applicants, while Enugu is still battling with about a hundred; and by the time we are through with screening, you will not have enough to recruit from the state.”

He dismissed claims that Igbo soldiers were being killed in large numbers because they were often deployed first to battlefronts.

He said, “There are a lot of falsehoods out there stating that the Igbo are being killed because they are the first to be sent to the battlefield. These things are not true. After all, we that are here have risen high in the Army, and we are telling you that they are lies.

“Today, in the Nigerian Army, our brother is one of the top commanders in charge of equipment. His name is Chibueze Ogbuabor.”

Lloyd Ekweremadu, commissioner for youth and sports development, said the low enlistment numbers have persisted despite efforts to reverse the trend.

He called for better strategies in publicising military career opportunities and educating the public on their benefits.

He said, “While seated here, I was just trying to conduct very quick research and it appears this same problem is happening worldwide and militaries across the world are deploying more cutting-edge strategies for recruitment because we are talking about the new generation that you communicate in a different way from the past.”

He described the military as “a noble and highly respected profession across the world”.

  • It’s Not Only Record That Should Be Banned, Musician Himself Should Be Proscribed-Soyinka Slams NBC

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has criticized the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over its recent decision to ban a song by Nigerian musician Eedris Abdulkareem that criticized President Bola Tinubu administration.

According to a report by Punch, Soyinka expressed strong disapproval, saying that banning just the song wasn’t enough. According to him, “It’s not only the record that should be banned, the musician himself should be proscribed.”

Soyinka’s comments appear to be laced with sarcasm, highlighting what he sees as excessive censorship and the growing intolerance for dissent in the country. He has previously criticized the NBC's broadcasting regulations, calling them an attack on freedom of expression and a threat to Nigeria’s creative industry.

The NBC’s decision to take down Abdulkareem’s song has sparked debate nationwide. While some support the move as necessary to maintain decorum in public media, others argue it is a direct attack on free speech and creativity.

Soyinka’s reaction adds to the growing criticism of how Nigerian authorities are handling political dissent, especially through music and the arts.

No runways. No planes. No airport.
Just smooth talk, forged documents, and next-level confidence.
By the time they realized it was all fake, the money was gone.

  • Last night, we hosted a banquet in honour of governors of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party who are in Ibadan for the PDP Governors’ Forum Meeting. In my remarks I thanked my brothers who attended the event despite the reduced access to Ibadan due to the ongoing airport upgrade.

The PDP Governors’ Forum Meeting is necessary at this time to deliberate on the way forward for the PDP as we reposition the party as the best option for Nigerians in 2027.

Timaya has again left millions of Nigerian women in shock after saying even if they give him a Nigerian lady for free, he won’t accept. “God forbid,” he added painfully, saying most Nigerian ladies come with too much drama, betrayal, and constant billing — and he’s just not ready for it anymore.

“It’s like they are not changing anytime soon,” he said with a heavy heart.

Timaya said he now prefers Cameroonian girls, calling them “very hot” and peaceful.

  • Toke Makinwa Receives Marriage Proposals After Sharing Openness to Becoming a Second Wife

Popular Nigerian media personality and fashion influencer, Toke Makinwa, has revealed that she’s already receiving marriage proposals just hours after opening up about her willingness to remarry—even if it means becoming a second, third, or fourth wife.

During a recent podcast appearance, Toke candidly admitted she’s now open to the idea of joining a polygamous union.
“Honestly, at this stage in my life, if the chance to be a second, third, fourth, or even fifth wife comes, I’d take it,” she shared.

She went on to explain that being in control all the time can be exhausting:
“I’m always the boss—it gets tiring. Sometimes, you just want someone else to take charge, even with little things like deciding what’s for dinner.”

Shortly after the episode went viral, Toke posted a screenshot of her inbox on social media, showing that several suitors had already reached out. One email boldly asked:
“GOAL: Can we get married?”—from a senior data analyst based in Ibadan.

Her revelation sparked a buzz online, with social media users reacting with mixed emotions—some amused by the quick responses and others debating her comments on polygamy.

Here are some reactions from users:

@dearolaa: “They said no one wants to marry her, but clearly, she’s just not settling. She wants a rich man, even if she’s the 5th wife.”
@Dnpassion: “They just want a bite of the national cake.”
@MarindotiLesh: “All na to taste BBL yansh and run.”
@Stg_pop: “She’s just trying to prove men want her. It’s a PR stunt.”

The Nigerian government through NBC has banned Eedris Abdulkareem's new song, Seyi Tell Your Papa.

The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has banned media houses from playing Eedris Abdulkareem's latest song.

The song, titled Tell Your Papa, is a criticism of this current administration. In it, Eedris directed Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, to speak to his father about the worsening state of the country.

In Tell Your Papa, Abdulkareem sings, "Seyi, tell your papa country hard. Tell your papa people dey die. Tell your papa this one don pass jagajaga."

"Seyi, how far? I swear your papa no try. Too much empty promises. On behalf of Nigerians, take our message to him; kidnappers dey kill Nigerians.

"Seyi, try travel by road without your security make you feel the pains of fellow Nigerians. You dey fly private jets, insecurity no be your problem," he continues singing.

The National Broadcasting Commission has now released a circular to media houses preventing them from playing the song.

But my Naija people what are your thoughts?
