Coca-Cola is set to change a key ingredient in its US drinks, thanks to pressure from President Donald Trump.

The US president announced that Coca-Cola has agreed to replace high-fructose corn syrup with real cane sugar in its American products, a move he claims will make the drinks “just better.” Trump thanked Coca-Cola leaders via a Truth Social post, declaring it a “very good move.”

Cane sugar is already standard in Coca-Cola drinks sold in countries like Mexico and the UK. Trump’s Health Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, has criticised corn syrup’s health risks, pushing for cleaner ingredients as part of his “Make America Healthy Again” campaign.

While Coca-Cola has yet to comment publicly, CEO James Quincey previously confirmed efforts to reduce sugar and reformulate recipes globally.
