  • Governor Dapo Abiodun Announces the Passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Awujale of Ijebuland

It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the revered Awujale of Ijebuland. Oba Adetona joined his ancestors today, July 13, 2025 at the age of 91 leaving behind a remarkable legacy that has significantly shaped Ijebuland, Ogun State and Nigeria in general.

It is indeed double sadness that Oba Adetona joined his ancestors the same day that the former President, Muhammadu died in a London, the United Kingdom hospital.

Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona was a remarkable royal father, who ascended the throne in 1960, marking the beginning of a transformative era for Ijebuland. Throughout his reign, he was a beacon of unity, cultural preservation, and progressive development. His dedication to the welfare of his people was evident in his efforts to foster educational advancements, healthcare improvements, and economic growth within the state and Nigeria.

Under his guidance, Ijebuland witnessed remarkable strides in infrastructure and community development, establishing itself as a model of progress in Ogun State. His leadership not only enhanced the cultural heritage of Ijebuland with the Ojude Oba festival attaining international standards but also solidified its reputation as a thriving hub of commerce and tradition.

As we mourn his passing, let us celebrate the extraordinary life of Oba Adetona and honour his contributions to our country. His wisdom, kindness, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of his people will forever be etched in our hearts.

May his soul rest in peace, and may we continue to uphold the values he instilled in us during his illustrious reign.

  • Students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan have rejected the Oyo State Government’s decision to rename their institution to Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic.

Governor Seyi Makinde made the renaming announcement during a commendation service for the late Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor and the first rector of the polytechnic.

But students, under the Student Union Government (SUG), are pushing back hard. In a statement signed by the SUG President, Comr. Oladipupo Olamide, the student body described the move as “unjustifiable and degrading,” warning that it would erase the school’s legacy and undermine its national identity.

“For over 50 years, The Polytechnic Ibadan has been a beacon of academic excellence,” the SUG said. “Renaming the institution would cause irreparable harm to its reputation and alumni.”

They are demanding a complete reversal of the decision and say they are open to dialogue — but not at the cost of their school’s heritage.

Do you agree with the students? Should a school's history be changed to honour its pioneers, or is it better to protect its legacy as it is?

  • Fela Kuti and his wife, Remilekun (Remi) Taylor, shared a love story that began long before the spotlight of fame and the roar of political resistance. In the early 1960s, the two young lovers were far from the bustling streets of Lagos or the pulsating energy of the Shrine—Fela was a music student at the Trinity College of Music in London, and Remi, a British-born Nigerian woman, was part of his new world abroad.
They met in the vibrant cultural mix of post-war London, where African students, British jazz, and global ideas intermingled freely. Drawn together by shared heritage and a growing affection, they got married in 1960—the same year Nigeria gained independence. Their union marked the beginning of a personal journey that would produce not only a family but also the early emotional foundations of Fela’s legendary career.
Remilekun Taylor became Fela’s first wife and the mother of his first three children: Yeni, who would later become a renowned dancer and cultural curator; Femi, who would inherit and expand his father’s Afrobeat legacy; and Sola, their only daughter, who sadly passed away in 1997. During their early years together in London, Remi stood beside Fela as he experimented with sound, identity, and direction—far from the rebel icon he would later become.
Photographs from the 1960s capture them in quiet, elegant moments: a young couple full of promise, navigating life, music, and love in a foreign land. At that time, Fela was still Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti—a disciplined musician and dreamer—before he dropped the colonial “Ransome” and embraced “Anikulapo,” meaning “he who carries death in his pouch.”
Though their marriage eventually ended as Fela’s life took a more radical, unconventional turn—including his later controversial marriage to 27 women in 1978—Remilekun’s role in his life remains deeply significant. She was part of the quieter, more grounded chapter of Fela’s story—the years of building, of beginnings, of becoming.
In the grand narrative of Fela Kuti—the revolutionary, the cultural warrior, the Afrobeat pioneer—Remi stands as the woman who loved him first, the mother of his first children, and a witness to his transformation from a promising young musician to a global icon.

  • *LET FOOD BE YOUR MEDICINE*

Most of the chronic diseases troubling Nigerians today didn’t come from our soil.

    They came from our silence.
From the things we stopped eating.
From the foods we abandoned in our pursuit of status.

    We had everything.

    Bitterleaf and ogbono.
Acha, ofada, tigernuts, baobab, African oil bean, locust beans.
We fermented, roasted, sun-dried, and slow-cooked meals that healed the gut and kept the liver sharp.

But somehow, someone convinced us that the very foods that kept our ancestors alive were dirty, local, primitive, and “not balanced.”

And that’s where the problem began.

Walk into most homes in Lagos or Abuja today and ask a child, “What did you eat for breakfast?”
The common answers? Bread and tea. Cornflakes and milk. Chocolate-spread sandwich.

Pap, yam and oil, abacha, moi moi, or okpa have now been reduced to “village food.”
Yet these were the same meals that built strong teeth, fertile wombs, and clean arteries for generations.

    So what really changed?

It wasn’t just colonialism, it was mental colonization.
The kind that continues today through food ads, Western medical policy templates, and shelves stacked with boxed and packaged meals.

And now we’re seeing the results:
confused diets, weak immunity, hormonal disruption, stunted metabolism, and chronic inflammation from childhood.

We’ve even changed how often we eat.
People now eat three to four times a day while moving less than 1,000 steps daily.
They wake, sit in traffic, sit at work, get home, sit again, and still believe they must eat something every few hours to “stay strong.”

Our ancestors walked to the stream, tilled the ground, fetched firewood, ground melon with stones, and trekked markets on foot.
Their meals were earned. Their digestion was natural. Their energy, clean.

Today, we mistake laziness for luxury.
We stop our children from sweating and call it love.
We buy them sugar-coated snacks, fast food, and flavoured drinks thinking it’s care.
Meanwhile, prediabetes, insulin resistance, and fatty liver are already developing quietly in many under-18s.

Open the average Nigerian fridge today.
Soda. Instant noodles. Sausages. Ice cream. Bread. Yoghurts with corn syrup. Chocolates.
All ultra-processed. All pro-inflammatory. All slowly damaging the brain, liver, and gut microbiome.

Professor Carlos Monteiro, from the University of São Paulo, coined the term ultra-processed foods in 2009.
He warned that these items are not merely unhealthy, they are industrially modified substances designed to be addictive and nutrient-empty.

    And he was right.

In 2023, The British Medical Journal published a sweeping review of 45 meta-analyses covering 9 million participants.
    The results?
Clear associations between ultra-processed food consumption and 32 major health problems, including cardiovascular disease, depression, type 2 diabetes, and premature death.

But in Nigeria, these same foods are branded as premium.
    Imported equals superior.
    Processed equals civilized.
    And native equals backward.

Even worse, our policymakers follow the same logic.

Most African dietary guidelines are borrowed from the U.S. Food Pyramid or British medical templates.
We wait for WHO, CDC, or USDA to validate the food growing in our backyard.
We ignore the science our grandmothers lived by, science rooted in soil, in climate, in memory.

This is not just a public health issue.
    It is a cultural amnesia.

The late Prof. Catherine Acholonu once said, “Our ancestors did not just eat to fill their stomachs they ate to align with nature.”
    That’s not superstition.
    That’s bio-adaptive nutrition.
That’s metabolic intelligence passed down across time.

And yet, we now look for imported keto kits, foreign wellness apps, and pharmaceutical supplements to solve problems that our food heritage already knows how to prevent.

Dr. Barry Popkin of the University of North Carolina described this global shift as the Nutrition Transition.
He divided it into five stages.
Africa, right now, is in Stage 4—marked by excessive sugar, seed oils, refined flour, and sedentary living.
What comes next is an epidemic of degenerative diseases.

    So let’s be clear:
    We’re not just eating wrong.
    We’re thinking wrong.

You don’t eat what’s trending, you eat what your DNA understands.
    You eat to reduce inflammation.
You eat to support your organs, not to stuff your fridge.

And when sickness finally knocks, the options are fewer.
That’s why prevention is no longer advice, it’s survival.

Self-care is no longer luxury, it’s a return to memory.

The healthiest food you can ever eat is the food your ancestors survived on.
    It’s coded in your enzymes.
It’s aligned with your gut flora.
    It’s built into your bones.

Eat with sense. Not with shame.
Protect your children from food confusion.
Let them grow up knowing that agidi is not lesser than croissant, and that ogi can nourish better than milk from a tin.

We don’t need another diet plan.
    We need cultural clarity.
We don’t need to import everything.
    We need to remember.

Because what kept us alive for 1,000 years is not backward,
…it’s what will save us now.

Catherine Acholonu once said, “Our ancestors did not just eat to fill their stomachs they ate to align with nature.” That’s not superstition. So let’s be clear: We’re not just eating wrong. Because what kept us alive for 1,000 years is not backward, …it’s what will save us now.

  • Far from the shores of modern life, the Bajau people of Indonesia live a life deeply rooted in the sea. Known as “Sea Nomads,” this unique community spends nearly their entire lives on houseboats near Sulawesi, rarely setting foot on land. From fishing to cooking and even sleeping, daily life unfolds atop water. Gifted with extraordinary diving skills, some Bajau can hold their breath for minutes and dive to impressive depths without gear—an ability passed down through generations. Their deep connection with the ocean makes them one of the world’s most fascinating maritime cultures.

  • PRAYER AGAINST CORRUPTION IN OUR NATION

    Abba Father,

I come before You to petition the court of heaven for immediate intervention on behalf of Your people in Nigeria. Father, by the blood of Your precious Son, these people have been purchased. They belong to Jesus Christ, not to the government of Nigeria.

They do not belong to the politicians or corrupt politicians & lawmakers. Others did not shed their blood or bear the weight of our sin as Jesus Christ has; therefore they have no legitimate claim to our lives. They seek to make us their slaves.

These modern day “Egyptians” and “Pharaohs” arrogantly believe they have the right and the power to injure Your children. But, they did not give us our life or our rights; You did. They do not have the right to strip Your people of the right to life and liberty that You gave us.

Therefore, by the blood of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, I humbly yet boldly come to you now in the time of our need.

Please, O God, do not resist our petition. We know, as a nation of people, that we have failed to honor You. We have rebelled.

As a nation of people, we are guilty of shedding innocent blood through the abortion industry and the demand to legalize the murder of babies at whim. We have turned to idols and rejected Your law in so many ways, yet I plead for mercy. We truly do not deserve it, but I know how merciful & gracious You are. You have said in Your word that You do not wish that any person would perish, but all would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Please forgive us and help us. Send Your angels on assignment to overturn unjust laws and help us save our nation.

Father, please send out Your command to the earth and allow Your word to run very swiftly.

I ask You to establish Your word, for it is written in Psalm 149: 7-9 that You have given Your people the power to execute vengeance on nations & punishment on peoples; to bind their kings with fetters of iron and execute the written judgment of Your word.

    Therefore, I declare:

I bind the spirits of murder, lust, covetousness, idolatry, witchcraft, slander, greed, corruption & selfish ambition in the name and authority of the Lord Jesus Christ. I loose justice, equity, & righteousness in Jesus name. I release the Fear of the Lord.

I declare the slain shall fall in the enemy’s camp & Your people are spared in the day of calamity, O God. Your people, Israel, are not forsaken, nor Judah (those who praise You).

By our God, the Lord of Hosts, though our land has been filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel, let Your people be preserved according to Jeremiah 51:4,5.

I declare this is the time of the Lord’s recompense towards His people, for the judgment of those who conspire to harm innocent life has reached to heaven. Let the arrows be released into the enemy’s camp! Let the evil kingdoms be broken & destroyed according to Jeremiah 51:20-21.

Let Your hand be stretched out against the destroying mountains according to Jeremiah 51:25.

I declare the LORD is a great God & a great King above all gods. (Psalm 95:3)

For You are the LORD Most High over all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods. (Psalm 97:9)

I declare You Oh God have performed Mighty deeds with Your arm; You have scattered those who are proud in the thoughts of their hearts. (Luke 1:51)

I declare that you frustrate the devices of the crafty so that their hands cannot carry out their plans. You catch the wise in their own craftiness & the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them according to Job 5:12,13.

I declare the King of heaven should be honored for all Your works are true & Your ways just, & You are able to humble those who walk in pride according to Daniel 4:37.

Blessed be the LORD who delivered us from the hand of the Egyptians & from the hands of evil political pharaohs, & who delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians. Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly He was above them. Exodus 18:11

Father, there are corrupt politicians, corrupt lawmakers, corrupt judges, corrupt business people that have conspired against Your people.

They have conspired for the sake of evil gain, & have plotted against the lives of the innocent.

They seek to destroy our children. Your CHILDREN, LORD. Let the curse enter the house of the thief that consumes their entire house, as it is written in Zechariah 5:3-4.

I specifically address those responsible for overturning & silencing the voice of the Nigerian people & others that are at the forefront of political corruption.

You know everyone & everything that has been done in secret, Lord. Bring their evil deeds out of hiding so that true motives can be evaluated by all. Those that have conspired to do injustice & oppression.

These people have committed crimes against humanity for selfish gain, & I ask that You cut off their ability to continue in evil.

I ask You to consider their actions against Your people & deal with them as You see fit. Not as I will, but as You will, O God.

Let ungodly stewards be deposed from their offices and let another more righteous person take their place. Let their authority be stripped from them according to Isaiah 22:20-22.& Plsm109:1-20

Let those businesses who make their gain through immoral means and get rich at the expense of the well-being of others wither and dry up immediately.

As You cursed the fig tree & it supernaturally dried up overnight, let the same be done to corrupt politicians oil cabals & oil bunkers and business people who conspire to profit by violence against innocent citizens of this nation Nigeria

Father, these people have rejoiced at destroying Your heritage. They have silenced people that have understood the amount of corruption & took a stand against it.

They have silenced whistle blowers & destroyed their families.

They have willfully destroyed others & rejoiced in it. They conspire to rob Your people of security, health & life.

Let the weapons of your armory be opened. Bring out the weapons of Your indignation according to Jeremiah 50:25. Let Your arrows be released to carry out the judgment against those bearing the oppressing sword. Those oppressing Your people have refused to let them go. I ask You for judgment with mercy against those that refuse to let Your people be free in Nigeria

Father, expose the wrongdoing, the corruption, & the harm that politicians are perpetuating against the citizens of this country Nigeria

Give us judges that aren’t bought off with a bribe. Your promise in Isaiah 1:26 is that You would give us good judges & wise counselors again. Please give us our liberty back, in Jesus name!

Show Your power, O Lord. You are the Lord of Hosts! Let our Redeemer thoroughly plead our case! Give us rest from evil taskmasters & against evil princes that oppress Your people.

I declare a sword of justice is against the mighty that seek to perpetuate evil plans & conspire against our nation.

I declare a sword is against their treasures and they will be robbed, according to Jeremiah 50:37.

I declare that according to Psalm 89:23 that You have crushed Your foes & you have stricken down our enemies.

Also according to Psalm 18:40, you have given us the necks of our enemies and their heads (authority) have been removed from them in Jesus name.

Let the power of the wicked be broken, according to Psalm 37:17.

Father, it is written in Isaiah 49:25 where You affirmed that “captives would be taken from warriors & plunder retrieved from the fierce; You said that You would contend with those that contend with us, & our children You would save.”

I declare these evil powers' ability to multiply, take dominion & subdue others is cut off, for their master has already been defeated. It is written in John 16:11 that the ruler of this world has been judged, and in John 12:31 it is written that the ruler of this world shall be cast out. According to Your word, let him be cast out of these systems now in Jesus name.

Let those that have been caught in the enemy’s snare escape and turn to You, O God. Convict their conscience. Let them repent and be saved in Jesus name.

We declare that You will ruin the enemy's plans and remove the crown from those unworthy to govern. You will give the right to rule to the people who will rule in righteousness, & those You have chosen, according to Your promise in Ezekiel 21:27 & Jeremiah 23:6.

We declare ungodly thrones are overturned and the power of foreign kingdoms are shattered. You have overthrown the driving forces & those that are in league with evil forces according to Haggai 2:2.

Father, Your word in Jeremiah 30:10 tells us that You will save us & our seed from captivity.

Your word also in Isaiah 49:25 declares that You will take the captives of the mighty away from them & You will contend with those that contend with us. You promised to save our children. I thank You for Your promise. I thank You that You are a God of justice.

I thank You, Father, that the idols of evil thrones are broken. I thank you that the bows of the mighty men and corrupt politicians are broken according to Jeremiah 51:56.

I thank You that evil shield bearers that protect the ungodly from judgment and thwart justice for the oppressed are taken down and removed.

I thank You that You have pleaded our case and taken vengeance for Your people according to Jeremiah 51:36.

Your kingdom come, Lord Jesus, Your will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus name. Amen.

*No Weapon Shall Prosper Against You*

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the LORD.
    Isaiah 54:17

A life that is founded upon the gospel of Jesus Christ is unshakable. When you build your life upon the gospel, you are building on a strong foundation that will give you stability and the power of God for lasting breakthroughs (Rom. 1:16).

You may be going through an extremely difficult season right now. Perhaps you are reading this and you have just received a negative medical report, or maybe you are surrounded by some challenging circumstances at your place of employment. I want to encourage you to say this by faith: “I am too blessed to be stressed.”

Now invite our Lord Jesus into your situation. Involve Him in your area of need. Whether it is a healing, provision, or relationship breakthrough that you need, see and believe that the Lord is with you.

My dear friend, don’t put your trust in your own understanding. Instead, lean wholly on the one Who is more interested in your success than you are. The book of Proverbs tells us, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Prov. 18:10). Run to Him and cast all your cares upon Him for He cares for you.

Speak with me this promise of God found in today’s scripture into your situation right now:
“ ‘No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,’ says the Lord.” Amen and Amen!

Meditate on the last line of this powerful scripture. In the new covenant of grace, your righteousness is from the Lord Jesus Himself. Now, the more you understand your righteousness in Christ, the more you will experience His promise in today’s scripture.

The opposite holds true. When God’s people are not established in their righteous identity in Christ, they become susceptible to the weapons of the enemy. Weapons such as sickness, lack, guilt, condemnation, fear, depression, and all kinds of disorders and addictions.

That is why it is so important to be sure that you are listening to the real gospel. God’s Word proclaims that none of these weapons, even if they have already been formed, shall prevail against you. And every unfounded accusation, every malicious lie, and every false allegation you shall condemn! The enemy doesn’t have a hold over your life. God does, and He holds it together!
