The Northern Elders Forum on Tuesday said the country is bleeding from the North, calling on the government to act now before it is too late.
It also condemned in the strongest terms what it described as “the brutal massacre of innocent Nigerian travellers in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State,” calling the atrocity a chilling reflection of the country’s deepening security crisis and failure of leadership.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by NEF’s spokesperson, Prof Abubakar Jiddere, the group said it was “shaken to its core” by the premeditated slaughter of 18 citizens, including women and children, who were ambushed, hacked to death, and set ablaze while en route to a wedding in Quan-Pan, Plateau State.

The Enugu State governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, on Tuesday received the Super Eagles and Udinese FC goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Enugu.
Okoye, who is from Enugu State, expressed excitement at returning to his roots and announced plans to launch a charitable foundation and establish a football academy in the state. He said these initiatives aimed to give back to society, inspire young talents, and nurture future stars.
"I’m truly excited to be back home. Enugu is my origin and I carry it with pride everywhere I go. I look forward to giving back by setting up a foundation for humanitarian causes and a football academy to mentor and train aspiring players,” he said.
Responding, Governor Mbah commended Okoye for making Enugu State proud on the national and international stage. He applauded the goalkeeper’s commitment to youth development and announced that the state government would appoint him as an Ambassador of Enugu State, describing him as a role model who would inspire young people, particularly pupils in the state’s Smart Green Schools.
“Maduka Okoye represents the best of Enugu talent on the national and global stage,” Governor Mbah said. “As a state, we are proud of his achievements and inspired by his desire to give back. Olivia stood in front of the mirror in the club’s dressing room, adjusting the short, shimmering black dress the manager had given her. Her heart pounded as she looked at herself. She had never done this before—never danced in front of strangers, never used her beauty like this. But she needed the money. Fifty million naira was too much. And Malik? He only saw her as a debt.

Malik stood in the middle of the club, his face dark with fury. His hands were clenched. His eyes—burning.

Olivia stood frozen on the stage, her breath coming fast. Malik didn’t speak. He just walked toward her, slow, deliberate. Every step felt like a threat.

When they got to the penthouse, he didn’t yell. He didn’t even look at her. He just walked inside, his back rigid.

"I needed the money!" she burst out, her voice shaking. "Fifty million naira, Malik! I can’t just serve drinks forever! I have to pay you back, I have to—"
He turned so fast she flinched. His eyes were wild. **"You think I want you shaking your ass for other men? You think I’ll let you—"**

Tears spilled down her cheeks. She was scared. Scared of his anger. Scared of how much she cared what he thought. Without thinking, she stepped forward and hugged him. Tight.
