The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) successfully thwarted a double terrorist attack on Monday morning in Timbuktu, according to a statement from the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
Around 10:00 a.m., terrorists simultaneously attempted to enter the Fort Cheick Sidi Békaye military camp and Timbuktu airport. However, the swift and forceful response of Malian soldiers forced the attackers to retreat after a violent exchange.
The interim report shows that 14 terrorists have been eliminated and 31 suspects arrested. The Malian armed forces also made large seizures of weapons, as well as vehicles and various equipment.
