BREAKING: Wike Takes Over PDP Headquarters
The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will begin the takeover of properties in Abuja over unpaid ground rent, starting Monday, May 26, 2025.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the land housing the permanent headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), currently under construction in Abuja’s Central Business District, is among the affected properties, having been revoked in March due to several years of unpaid ground rent.
The announcement was made on behalf of Wike during a joint press briefing in Abuja on Friday, featuring key FCTA officials including the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka; Director of Land Administration, Mr. Chijioke Nwankwoeze; and Director of Development Control, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima.
The officials disclosed that 4,794 titles had been revoked for failure to pay ground rent, with some defaults dating back 43 years. Among the affected properties is the PDP’s permanent headquarters, under construction in the Central Business District of Abuja.
“Ownership of the revoked 4,794 properties in the Central Area, Garki I and II, Wuse I and II, Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape districts had already reverted to the FCTA.
And as from Monday, next week, the government will begin to exercise its rights of ownership on the affected landed properties,” the officials said.
“As usual, this will be done without consideration as to ownership of the affected landed properties. It will be purely in line with extant laws and regulations guiding the process.”
The revocations were carried out under Section 28(5)(a)(b) of the Land Use Act, which empowers the government to reclaim land when the terms of occupancy are violated, the statement said.
The FCTA said the affected owners had defaulted on over N6.96 billion in ground rent, and recalled that the administration had given a 21-day grace period for owners with debts under 10 years, which has now expired.
Speaking during the briefing, the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, emphasized, “It is clearly stipulated in the terms and conditions of the grant of Right of Occupancy, and it is due for payment on the first day of January, each year, without demand.”
“There was no court decision on the revocation, and as such, the FCTA is not restricted in the discharge of its lawful functions on the affected properties.”
Director of Development Control Mukhtar Galadima confirmed that enforcement would begin on Monday.
He said the FCTA will begin sealing off the affected properties and restricting access on Monday.BREAKING: Wike Takes Over PDP Headquarters The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will begin the takeover of properties in Abuja over unpaid ground rent, starting Monday, May 26, 2025. Hi, I need some help figuring out something I’ve been contemplating.
Due to some financial difficulties, I have to relocate and I’m looking for a place in Nigeria that’s very affordable in terms of rent and general cost of living. One of my top priorities is reliable electricity and good network connectivity, as these are essential for my work and daily life.
My budget is quite limited—less than ₦100,000—so affordability is crucial.
So far, the options I’m considering include:
Osogbo, Osun State
Uyo, Akwa Ibom
Gboko, Benue State
Abakaliki, Ebonyi State
If you have any suggestions, insights, or recommendations about these places—or anywhere else that might fit my criteria—I’d really appreciate your input.

The CD Walkman: The Ultimate 90s Flex in Nigeria
In the 1990s, if you owned a CD Walkman, you were a certified big boy or big girl. Long before iPods or Spotify, this sleek, portable device was the gold standard of personal music enjoyment — and in Nigeria, it was more than just a gadget; it was a status symbol.
Imported mainly from the US or Europe, the Sony Discman and its lookalikes were treasured possessions. They weren’t cheap — owning one meant your parents had “connections abroad” or you were the type to say “My uncle just came back from London.” Carrying it around, especially with a pouch or belt clip, earned you instant street cred among your peers.
The CD Walkman brought a new kind of listening experience. Unlike the cassette Walkman that required fast-forwarding and rewinding, CDs gave you instant track skipping, clearer sound, and the ability to show off your “cool” music collection. From 2Pac, Boyz II Men, and Mariah Carey, to local hits from Plantashun Boiz and Daddy Showkey, you were in control of the vibe wherever you went.
But the flex wasn’t complete without a pack of AA batteries (which drained fast!), your favorite pirate-burnt mix CD, and that careful “don’t shake it too much” posture because early models skipped easily. Yet despite its quirks, the CD Walkman was every teenager’s dream and every cool adult’s gadget.
In school buses, roadside hangouts, or during NEPA blackouts, if you whipped out a CD Walkman and slid on your foam-covered headphones, people noticed. You weren’t just listening to music — you were making a statement.🎧 The CD Walkman: The Ultimate 90s Flex in Nigeria In the 1990s, if you owned a CD Walkman, you were a certified big boy or big girl. That One Food Item You Always Forget To Restock… Until It’s Too Late....
You entered the kitchen, full of inspiration and ready to prepare something delicious. You had chopped the onions and mixed the peppers; your pot was hot, and the aroma of the scorching first few components was already supplying you with existence.
Then you reached for the salt… Nothing.
You shake the empty can, but not a drop. You open the cupboard—maybe there’s a backup? Nope. Empty.
You try to stay calm. “ Okay, no problem; let me add Maggi…”
At this point, your heartbeat is a little faster as you rush to check for groundnut oil. It’s gone. Frustration and exhaustion set in. You then decide to order some meals.
And tomorrow? Oh, tomorrow we’re making that grocery list. We’re restocking. We’re filling every shelf.
But let’s be honest...what’s that one ingredient you always forget to restock until it’s too late?
