The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the payment of the revised ₦77,000 monthly allowance to serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, following months of delays attributed to budgetary constraints. This increase, announced in September 2024 to align with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, raised the stipend from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000, effective from July 2024.
While current corps members have begun receiving the updated allowance, the government has pledged to pay the backlog of arrears to those who served during the period of the announced increment but had completed their service before the payments commenced. The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, assured that all affected ex-corps members would receive their entitled arrears, although he noted that the payments might not be immediate.
The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, reiterated this commitment, stating that the government is conscious of its promise and will handle the arrears within the budgetary provisions once funds are available.
This development comes after advocacy groups, such as the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), highlighted the non-payment of ₦77,000 to over 618,000 ex-corps members who exited the scheme between February and November 2024.
While the disbursement of the new allowance marks a significant milestone, corps members and ex-corps members continue to anticipate the resolution of pending arrears, hoping that the government follows through on its promises without further delays.nfv.ng Sign-in to gada.chat accept our friendship request. "Desist from Claiming Mogaji Title!" – Olubadan Cautions Sarafadeen Olayiwola
His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has formally disclaimed Engineer Sarafadeen Abdulrasaq Adekunle Olayiwola, warning him to stop identifying as the Mogaji of Otepola Ibidapo Family, Moganna Compound, Isale Bode, Ibadan.
This directive was contained in an official press statement issued and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Chief Ayoade Solomon Olugbemiga.
According to the statement, the Chieftaincy Screening and Dispute Resolution Committee, during its sitting on November 20, 2024, determined that the certificate allegedly possessed by Engineer Olayiwola was forged and, therefore, null and void.
Further investigations revealed that he was never properly installed by any recognized traditional authority. Moreover, during the Olubadan-in-Council meeting held on Monday, May 19, 2025, multiple allegations of misconduct and grave impropriety were raised against him.
In view of these revelations, the Olubadan has ordered Engineer Sarafadeen Olayiwola to immediately desist from parading himself as Mogaji of the Otepola Ibidapo Family.
The monarch sternly warned that any further attempt to falsely assume the title will attract strict sanctions and possible legal prosecution.

"They that trust in the lord shall be as Mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth forever. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, the lord is round about his people from henceforth even forever. For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the rod of the lot of the righteous, least the righteous put their hands unto iniquity.
