Morocco leads the African automotive industry with a production capacity of 700.000 vehicles a year.

Morocco is producing more cars than some European countries

In 2023, Morocco produced over 535,000 motor vehicles, including both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Morocco's automotive industry has the capacity to produce 700,000 vehicles annually. The Renault-Nissan plant in Tangier and the PSA Kenitra plant are major contributors to this production.

Moroccan-made cars are primarily exported to France, Italy, Turkey, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The European Union is a major destination for these exports, with Morocco becoming the largest automotive exporter to the EU. Israel has also begun importing cars from Morocco due to a Turkish trade embargo.

9. Now, even if Zambia was to import petrol from Angola at pump price (0.327 USD), it would still save about 0.6 USD (compared from importing from UAE).

10. Zambia shares 1,110 KMs of border with Angola, and both are members of SADC and the distance between the two capitals us 2,300 KMs.

The Discalced Carmelites in Alba de Tormes, Spain, have made a special opportunity available to the faithful by opening the urn containing the incorrupt remains of St. Teresa of Avila for public veneration. This rare occasion, not seen since 1914, allows Catholics to pay their respects and seek the saint's intercession. The veneration is taking place at the Basilica of the Annunciation in Alba de Tormes and will continue until May 25.

Spain Declares State of Emergency After Massive Power Blackout

Spain's Interior Ministry declared a state of emergency on Monday following a widespread power outage that affected much of the Iberian Peninsula. The blackout, which struck shortly after 10:30 a.m. GMT, disrupted major services across Spain and Portugal-halting trains, cutting phone signals, disabling traffic lights, and prompting panic buying in stores.

The emergency status will apply only to regions that formally request it. So far, Madrid, Andalusia, and Extremadura have asked the central government to take over public order and other responsibilities.
Cities including Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona, Seville, and Valencia were heavily impacted. People were trapped in lifts and metro stations, and chaotic scenes unfolded as evacuations took place across rail networks and underground systems. Traffic congestion surged in central Madrid due to non-functioning traffic lights.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez attributed the blackout to a "strong oscillation" in the European power grid, though the exact cause remains unknown. He urged the public to avoid speculation and to contact emergency services only when necessary. By Monday night, Sanchez announced that around half of Spain's electricity supply had been restored, with full recovery expected by Tuesday.

Portuguese grid operator REN pointed to a "rare atmospheric phenomenon" caused by extreme temperature fluctuations in Spain, warning that it could take up to a week to fully stabilize the grid.

Airports were also affected, with multiple delays and cancellations reported. TAP Air, Portugal's national airline, advised travelers not to go to the airport until further notice.

BREAKING: VAST areas of Spain and Portugal have been hit by power outages, leaving whole cities without electricity and internet.

Entire airports and metro systems screeched to a halt across the peninsula - spinning the countries into mayhem.

Traffic snarled up on roads across Spain and Portugal as lights and signals stopped working.

Train services came to a complete stop, leaving huge crowds stranded at stations, and air traffic has been slashed to "half capacity".
