Meet Master Damien Agossou Degbo, a West African kung fu master who brought ancient Chinese martial arts to his homeland of Benin. Inspired by Jackie Chan films at the age of 13, Degbo was mesmerized by the grace, strength, and philosophy behind kung fu.

He joined a local martial arts club and trained rigorously four times a week. Peter Obi, Others Escape Plane Crash

The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, His Excellency Peter Obi was indeed on an Air Peace flight (P47123) that experienced significant turbulence and a "terrifying landing experience" at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (Local Wing) in Lagos on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

According to eyewitnesses and passengers, including reports from Quora (Nigerian) and IROHIN ODUA, the flight from Abuja to Lagos encountered heavy turbulence and hovered dangerously for about 30 minutes, making several failed landing attempts before finally touching down. Passengers described it as a "near-death experience." Peter Obi was reportedly calm and encouraged other passengers during the ordeal.

It's important to note that while described as a "near-crash" or "narrow escape," the plane did not actually crash. As of the reports, aviation authorities had not yet released an official statement, and investigations into the cause of the turbulence were said to be ongoing.

There was also a past incident in May 2013 where then-Governor Peter Obi and others escaped a potential air mishap on an Arik Air flight from Lagos to Asaba due to bad weather. However, the more recent and widely reported incident appears to be the one on June 3, 2025.

Peter Obi Narrowly Escapes Plane crash in Lagos Airport

A major tragedy was narrowly avoided on Tuesday afternoon when an Air Peace flight (P47123) carrying over 100 passengers—including Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi—encountered a terrifying landing experience at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (Local Wing) in Lagos.

According to eyewitness reports, the flight, which departed Abuja at 12:59 PM (24 minutes behind schedule), ran into heavy turbulence while attempting to land in Lagos. Originally scheduled to touch down at 1:55 PM, the plane only managed to land at 2:25 PM after a frightening 30-minute ordeal in the air.

Passengers on board described the moment as “a near-death experience.” The plane reportedly struggled to stabilize and hovered dangerously above residential areas, forcing the pilot to make several failed attempts before finally landing.

"It was scary. The aircraft was going up and down like it had lost control. People were praying, crying, some even casting out demons," said one passenger.

Peter Obi, who was flying in economy class, was praised by many passengers for his calmness during the chaos. “He kept encouraging us to stay calm and have faith. It was comforting to see him composed even in the middle of fear,” another passenger shared.

In the first-class section, businessman Dr. Benson Onuwaje reportedly stood up to pray for the safety of everyone onboard. “He encouraged people to trust God. His words gave many of us hope,” said another survivor, Mathew Adekunle.

This incident has reignited concerns about aviation safety in Nigeria. Some passengers expressed fears that if the plane had crashed with a figure like Peter Obi on board, the consequences would have been grave for the nation.

Peter Obi had just concluded a visit to flood-affected communities in Northern Nigeria, where he donated N20 million in support. He returned to Abuja for a political engagement before flying to Lagos, where the incident occurred.

"We thank God for saving us," a relieved passenger said. "It could have been a different story today. But God protected us—including Peter Obi.”

As of now, the aviation authorities are yet to release an official statement. Investigations into the cause of the turbulence and the near-crash are ongoing.

I request that those in charge should investigate this matter urgently, determining the factors contributing to these collapses and developing strategies to prevent their recurrence, with the ultimate goal of protecting the lives and safety of all road users.

GOV AIYEDATIWA HAILS JUDICIARY AS TRIBUNAL AFFIRMS 2024 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

- PDP's petition, others unanimously dismissed for lack of merit

- Gov invites opposition to join hands with him to move Ondo State forward

The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has described as a welcome development the judgement of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which affirmed his election as Governor on Wednesday.

The tribunal while dismissing the petitions filed by some parties, upheld the election of Governor Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), affirming his victory in the November 16, 2024 governorship poll.

The three-member tribunal, chaired by Justice Benson Ogbu, delivered a unanimous judgment, dismissing the petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Agboola Ajayi, and other political parties. The tribunal held that the allegations of widespread irregularities and non-compliance with the Electoral Act were not substantiated.

Speaking to journalists after the verdict, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to God and the people of Ondo State, adding that the tribunal’s judgment has reaffirmed the will of the people.

“I give thanks to Almighty God who orchestrated this journey from the beginning and used the good people of Ondo State. Over 366,000 residents gave us their mandate on November 16 last year to continue governing this state as the seventh democratically elected governor.

“That mandate has now been validated by the tribunal. While some political parties tried to overturn the people’s decision through the backdoor, the judiciary has fulfilled its role by upholding the choice made by the majority of voters across the 18 local government areas of the state,” he said.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also appreciated his deputy, party members, and the APC leadership for their support.

When asked if he would extend a hand of fellowship to the opposition, the Governor said his doors have always been open.

“From the very day I was declared winner, I called on the opposition to join us in developing Ondo State. If they truly have the interest of the state at heart, they are welcome to bring their ideas forward so we can work together for the progress of our dear state,” he said.

The Governor later led a crowd of supporters on a jubilation rally from the State High Court, venue of the tribunal’s sitting, to his campaign secretariat along Oyemekun road in Akure.

Breaking News: Epe in Tension as LG Chair Suspends Installation of New Olu-Epe, Cancels Eid Celebrations

Tensions are rising in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State as the Council Chairperson, Hon. Surah Animashaun, has officially suspended the installation of a new Olu-Epe following a succession dispute involving two rival claimants.

The local government boss, in a letter addressed to the Grand Chief Imam of the community on Tuesday, also announced the suspension of all Eid-al-Adha (Ileya) and Jumat celebrations at the Epe Central Mosque and Eid Ground in Oke Balogun.

This development comes in the wake of the passing of the immediate Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, Oba Shefiu Adewale, who died on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the age of 86.

According to Animashaun, the ongoing tussle between Chief Adeniyi Kadri Odedeogboro and Chief Iskilu Olajide Ikuforiji—both of whom are laying claim to the throne—has created significant security concerns within the community.

Her statement reads:
“Sequel to the dual installation of the new Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom on June 2, 2025, which is legally null and void due to the recent passing of Oba Shefiu Adewale, I am writing to inform your office that High Chief Adeniyi Kadri Odedeogboro and High Chief Iskilu Olajide Ikuforiji, both parading themselves as the newly installed Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, are hereby suspended till further hearing from the authorities.”

She added, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, security concerns, and public health issues, the Eid-al-Adha and Jumat services are hereby cancelled at the Epe Central Mosque and Eid Ground in Oke Balogun.”

The chairperson emphasized that the suspension is a precautionary measure to prevent clashes between the loyalists of both claimants and to maintain peace in the area.

Recall that Oba Shefiu Adewale, prior to his ascension as monarch, served as Otun-Balogun and later Balogun of Epe Kingdom before being crowned as Olu-Epe. His death was confirmed by High Chief Odedeogboro Balogun, Musiliu Adeniyi, who disclosed that the late monarch was buried the same day, in line with Islamic rites.

The Epe Kingdom now awaits clarity from traditional and legal authorities on the rightful successor to the throne.
