  • Super Falcons Rewarded Royally, But Who Will Honour Nigeria’s Real Nation Builders?

    By Stanley Ugagbe

The air is thick with jubilation, and rightly so. Our Super Falcons, a beacon of national pride, have once again soared, bringing home the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations trophy. President Bola Tinubu, with a flourish, has showered them with accolades: national honors, three-bedroom apartments, and a cool $100,000 each. The Nigeria Governors Forum chimed in with an additional N10 million per player. A grand gesture, indeed, a testament to their dedication and a shining moment for our nation.

But as the confetti settles and the cheers begin to fade, a dissonant note rings in the ears of many, a stark reminder of a deeper, more unsettling reality. While we celebrate our athletes, and rightly so, a gnawing question begs to be asked: what about the unsung heroes who keep the wheels of our society turning? The ones who, day in and day out, toil in the trenches, their invaluable contributions often met with a paltry pittance rather than a well-deserved windfall.

Let's speak plainly. Our teachers, the very architects of our future, are paid peanuts. They stand before our children, molding minds and shaping destinies, yet their take-home pay often feels like a cruel joke, barely enough to keep body and soul together. They are the bedrock of our society, yet we treat them as if their worth is less than the dust beneath our feet.

And what of our professors, the custodians of knowledge, the intellectual giants who are meant to propel our nation forward? They too earn peanuts, forcing many to moonlight or abandon academia altogether, leaving a gaping void in our institutions of higher learning. We expect them to produce world-class research and educate the next generation, but we offer them crumbs, effectively telling them their expertise is dispensable.

Consider the military men, those brave souls who stand as our shield against chaos, putting their lives on the line to safeguard our peace and sovereignty. Their sacrifice is immense, their courage unwavering. Yet, their take-home pay can't even take them home. Many struggle to provide for their families, living a hand-to-mouth existence while facing unimaginable dangers. It's a bitter pill to swallow when those who protect us are themselves struggling to survive.

Then there are our medical personnel, the frontline warriors against illness and disease, who dedicate their lives to healing the sick and saving lives. They are stretched thin, overworked, and underpaid, often working in deplorable conditions. The deplorable conditions and abysmal remuneration have driven many to seek greener pastures abroad, a phenomenon we now tragically refer to as "japa." Our hospitals are bleeding talent, and who can blame them for escaping a system that undervalues their tireless efforts?

The irony is as sharp as a surgeon's scalpel. We celebrate a football victory with lavish rewards, a moment of fleeting glory, while the very pillars of our society crumble under the weight of neglect. It's like pouring champagne on a wilting plant while the roots are starved of water. This disparity isn't just an oversight; it's a profound statement about our national priorities, a disheartening reflection of where our true values lie.

This isn't to say our Super Falcons don't deserve their accolades. They fought hard, they won big, and they brought joy to millions. Their victory is a testament to the power of sport and the spirit of perseverance. But true national development isn't built on isolated triumphs; it's built on the collective strength of a well-compensated, motivated, and appreciated workforce.

We cannot expect to build a truly great nation when the very people entrusted with educating our children, securing our borders, and healing our sick are struggling to make ends meet. It's a house built on sand, destined to collapse under the slightest pressure. This isn't just about money; it's about dignity, about respect, and about valuing the foundational elements of our society.

It's time for a radical shift in perspective, a re-evaluation of our national ethos. We must move beyond the dazzling spotlight of transient achievements and focus on the quiet, consistent efforts that truly sustain us. Let's not be blinded by the glitter of gold medals while the very fabric of our society frays at the edges.

The President's gesture, while commendable for the Super Falcons, highlights a glaring double standard. If we can find the resources to reward athletic prowess so handsomely, then surely, we can find the means to ensure that those who dedicate their lives to public service are compensated with dignity and fairness. It's not a matter of scarcity; it's a matter of priority.

It's time to provoke action. We must demand a living wage for our teachers, fair compensation for our professors, honorable pay for our military, and respectable remuneration for our medical personnel. We must hold our leaders accountable and insist that they put their money where their mouths are when it comes to the well-being of all citizens, not just a select few.

Let this moment of athletic triumph be a catalyst for change, a loud alarm bell ringing in the ears of those in power. Let it remind us that a nation's true strength lies not just in its sporting victories, but in the equitable treatment and flourishing of all its people. Otherwise, the taste of victory will forever be tinged with the bitter irony of a society that celebrates some while leaving others to wither on the vine.

  • A lawyer sold his well to a teacher. Two days later, the lawyer came to the teacher and said, "Sir, I sold you the well, but it's not with the water inside! If you want to use the water, you will have to pay extra."

The teacher smiled and replied, "Yes, I was about to come to you. I was going to say that you should please take your water from my well, or else you will have to start paying rent of keeping your water in my well from tomorrow because I only need the well but not the water inside.

Hearing this, the lawyer got nervous and said, "Oh, I was just joking sir!".

The teacher laughed and said, "You started your knowledge from us before becoming lawyers."

    Salute to teachers!

  • *YEAST INFECTIONS: UNDERSTANDING THE CAUSES, SYMPTOMS, PREVENTION AND REMEDY*

Yeast infections are more common than many realize, especially among women.

They can be uncomfortable, frustrating, and sometimes embarrassing to talk about.

But understanding them is the first step to relief and prevention.

A yeast infection occurs when there’s an overgrowth of Candida, a type of fungus that naturally lives in the body, especially in the mouth, gut, and genital area.

    Normally, it’s harmless.

But when the balance of bacteria and yeast is disrupted due to antibiotics, hormonal changes, stress, or a weakened immune system, Candida can multiply and cause infection.

Common symptoms of yeast infection include:

    itching,
    burning sensations,
    redness,
thick white discharge (often described as resembling cottage cheese), and
    discomfort during urination or sex.

While it mostly affects the vaginal area in women, yeast infections can also affect the mouth (oral thrush), skin folds, and even nails.

Most yeast infections can be treated with over-the-counter antifungal creams, suppositories, or oral medications like fluconazole (don't self medicate).

However, if symptoms persist or recur frequently, it's important to consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

To prevent yeast infections, keep the affected area dry and well-ventilated.

Yeast thrives in warm, moist environments, so wearing breathable cotton underwear and avoiding tight clothing can make a big difference.

Changing out of wet clothes like swimsuits or workout wear quickly is also helpful.

Avoid harsh soaps, scented products or douching, as these can upset the natural balance of bacteria in the genital area.

Stick to mild, unscented hygiene products and rinse with plain water.

Adding probiotics to your diet by drinking yogurt or supplements may help maintain healthy bacterial levels and reduce the risk of yeast overgrowth.

Also, reducing sugar intake can be beneficial, since high sugar levels in the body can promote yeast growth.

Yeast infections are treatable and nothing to be ashamed of.

You can protect your health and comfort confidently when you apply this knowledge.

  • *THE RESTORER'S DAILY GUIDE*

    DATE: THURSDAY 31ST JULY 2025

    THEME: *SUBTLE PRIDE*

    MEMORIZE
    Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

    READ
    2 Chronicles 16:1-10
In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.
Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent to Benhadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and all the store cities of Naphtali.
And it came to pass, when Baasha heard it, that he left off building of Ramah, and let his work cease.
Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha was building; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.
And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.
Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand.
For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

    THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
*Pride makes the proud blind to obvious realities.*

    MESSAGE
Pride can be very subtle. It can be masqueraded in the most subtle nature: which means that it can hide in meek looking persons. Pride can wear a humble look and hide in the most humble looking individual, just to dodge prying searchlights. The easiest thing to do is to discern pride in other people but very difficult to acknowledge and identify it when you are the one exhibiting it. Most times, the percentage of error we condemn in other people is smaller compared to the alarming obvious display in our own lives.

Another subtle side of pride is a feeling of self-sufficiency.

This kind of disposition makes you feel you don't need anybody's help: irrespective of their position and level in society.

King Asa, in today's text, exhibited this trait when he felt he no longer needed to seek God's help on any issue because he felt he had reached a level of sufficiency.

Whereas, in his early days, he would rather not take any step until adequate prayer had been made and men of God had been called to get direction from God. But when he felt that he was strong enough and would no more need God's guidance, then began the beginning of his end. His confidence began to cave in while God stood by and watched since He was no more needed.

The Scriptures clearly state that genuine promotions can only come from God. He alone can truly lift up and abase anyone. He graciously lifted up but failed to maintain the humble nature qualifier.

Such an individual will equally lose the crown that goes with the throne.

The Bible did not mince words when it said: the meek shall inherit the earth.

And so when King Asa became self-sufficient and unable to seek the Lord for help like in times past, he brought himself into a direct affront with God, and none can withstand God and prosper.

Therefore, God sent a prophet to proclaim his downfall.

Proud dispositions are not limited to the rich and powerful people alone.

Some poor people can be unimaginably proud, too.

Most times at their level, it gets complicated because you don't get to find one reason why the individual is proud.

Poor, ignorant, and proud. That is a disaster: isn't it?

There are poor and ignorant men who would ignore and rather die in poverty than humble themselves to seek ways out of their predicament just because they do not like the point of contact.

They can prefer to shun books that have enough light to dispel darkness in their areas of need to their own detriment simply because it's coming from a quarter they don't seem to like. It is truly pathetic to be obviously in need of help and yet be pretending about it. Poverty is bad enough. Ignorance and pride make it disastrous.

*Pride makes the proud blind to obvious realities in life.*

The proud can't see beyond himself, and he always feels and thinks he knows and understands better than everyone. Hence, they will never learn from anyone. This is another subtle side of pride.

    ACTION STEPS
    1. Ask the Lord to deliver you from every form of pride today.
    2. Ask the Lord to show you areas of your life where you need to do some restitution in your life.
    3. Share this message with your friends and family. It is a test of humility on your part.

    PRAYERS
Dear heavenly Father, Thank you for today's devotional guide. Oh God of restoration, restore and revive my spiritual life today, make me more like Jesus Christ inside out in Jesus' name. Amen.

    REMEMBER
*Pride makes the proud blind to obvious realities.*

Hence, they will never learn from anyone. This is another subtle side of pride. ACTION STEPS 1. Ask the Lord to deliver you from every form of pride today. 2. Ask the Lord to show you areas of your life where you need to do some restitution in your life. 3. Share this message with your friends and family. It is a test of humility on your part. PRAYERS Dear heavenly Father, Thank you for today's devotional guide. Oh God of restoration, restore and revive my spiritual life today, make me more like Jesus Christ inside out in Jesus' name. Amen. REMEMBER *Pride makes the proud blind to obvious realities.* AUTHOR: JEDIDIAH DAVID DAILY READING: 2Chronicles 20; Ecclesiastes 11-12; Proverbs 23; Acts 21; HYMN Jesus loves me ! this I know, For the Bible tells me so ; Little ones to Him belong; They are weak, but He is strong. • Jesus in Islam is called Ruhullah (Spirit of God):
A mighty prophet and Messenger who possesses the power of God.
Muslims loves Jesus and follow his teachings. If that makes you Christian, then Muslims are Christians. Jesus submits to the will of God and acknowledges that God is the greatest. This is what Islam is all about. Islam means "Submission." That makes Jesus Muslim. Jesus teaches us to submit to the will of God Almighty. By so doing, we are all Muslims. Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) sent by God not with a different message but to confirm what has been and guide humanity to God acknowledging his predecessors (from Jesus back to Abraham) they are all Muslims. (Submissive to the will of God). That is Islam.

  • People like to say "Just be yourself," "Be real," or "You can be totally transparent with me," but 99% of the time, this is total BS.
Here's why: To be one's 'True Self' is to allow yourself to be unfiltered, wild, unpredictable, offensive, inappropriate, messy, impulsive, horny, volatile, emotional, sensitive, depressed, angry, dangerous, pensive, aloof, needy, and more - often all at the same time.
The fact is that most people can't handle that kind of authentically, dynamic intensity.
Most people have had very sheltered lives and haven't had the kind of soul-shattering journey it takes to understand (not just know through book knowledge) how to become re-integrated and maintain the fire in your soul, much less help others in this process.
They just want you to be un-guarded enough for them to feel safe, but not so free that it feels un-predictable and out of their control.
However, there are rare types who can hold safe space for this storm.
These are people who have had severely traumatic childhoods, were emotionally pulverized by life, were reborn in the ashes, and have done immense amounts of healing work to become whole again.
These people are experts at holding space and empathising with the messy insanity that gets unleashed, providing you with valuable love and resources, meeting you on the level you need to become integrated in to your own wholeness.
If you find yourself needing one of these rare people, rest assured we are out there. You are not alone. We were once as you feel now, and we love you.
Through the courage to confront your own healing, you have the potential to be a rare, integrated, and amazing gift to the world. Keep going.
Don't suppress yourself to make others feel comfortable. Just reach out and find the right people to connect with."
