*JUST IN: NECO plans to conduct CBT-based exam for Nov-Dec SSCE*
The Registrar and Chief Executive, National Examination Council (NECO), Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, has said that the body is ready to conduct a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the November/December Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) for private students.
Wushishi, who stressed the need for an awareness campaign to get stakeholders on board the new approach to SSCE examinations, added that NECO had been carrying out the campaign in town hall meetings with stakeholders across the states on the need for CBT.
The Registrar, while speaking during the Education Writers’ Association of Nigeria (EWAN) dialogue series with the theme: “CBT for SSCE: Is Nigeria Ready?” held virtually, disclosed that there were more than 2,000 CBT centres across the country, aside from National Open University CBT centres in all the states and some local councils.
He added that NECO is also mapping out schools to match with available CBT centres so that they could determine the nearest distance to CBT centres or vice versa.
Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, in her remark, said the examination bodies, which include the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), have all it takes to conduct CBT exams
She disclosed that a committee called Improvement of Public Examinations in Nigeria, headed by Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede is working on such issues and will deliver the report soon.
Abdulkadir, who gave the assurance that examination bodies and the ministry would look inward to commence the new approach, however, stressed the need to punish the culprits sabotaging examinations in the country, noting that the government should resuscitate punitive laws on exam malpractices if they are dead.
However, participants at the meeting shared varying views.
A participant, Dr Adunola Osoba, suggested that CBT centres should be done in phases, saying: “It is achievable. Massive sensitisation should be done for stakeholders, especially the candidates.”
Another participant, AbdulRasheed Rabana, said Nigeria could not go CBT without her mode of examination conduct, saying: “Imagine if we conduct practical, oral examination, and essay examination? The only examination that is adaptable to CBT is our multiple-choice examination.”

Recently, I had a conversation with a 16-year-old who was bothered that she hadn't gained admission at her age.
I smiled.
Because I understood that pressure. Probably, she had seen some of her mates who had gotten admission a year before.
I’ve been there. So I decided to share a little bit of my own journey with her, just to encourage her heart.
I finished secondary school at 17.
But I didn’t get admission into the university until I was 21.
At that same age, many of my mates had already finished university.
Fast forward to now, I’m about turning 25, and I’m still in school.
But guess what?
Some of my age mates are married with kids.
Some are working good jobs.
Some are doing their master's abroad.
Some are doing very well financially.
And I celebrate them. I truly do.
But I will be a big fool, yes, a BIG FOOL, if I let comparison steal my joy.
Because what society won’t tell you is that life is not a race.
It’s not about who gets there first, it’s about finishing well.
Yes, it’s beautiful to start early. If you can, do it.
But if life didn’t hand you that early start, please don’t beat yourself up.
Some wanted to get married at 22… now they’re 30, and it hasn’t happened yet.
Some wanted to have kids at 27… now they’re 36, and they’re still waiting.
Some thought they’d be millionaires by 25… now they’re almost 40, and they’re still trying to figure things out.
Does that make them failures?
Absolutely not.
It makes them human.
Delay is not denial. And your life is not on pause just because you didn’t meet the timeline you hoped for.
Don’t let your age make you feel like you’re behind.
Don’t let society cage you with its timelines.
Live. Learn. Grow. Heal. Evolve. Do it at your pace.
Start early, yes. But if that’s not your story, start anyway.
Your journey is still valid. And your story is still unfolding beautifully.
Keep going.
Let's keep doing wonders together.

Beloved, our heavenly father is faithful and true. He promised Abraham 2000 years before Jesus was born that his descendants would be a great nation that would bless the world. Though it seemed like He was not keeping His promise, He was faithful and kept it through Jesus.
Now, believers from all nations are"descendants of Abraham "and can be sure that God will keep all his promises to them.
Heavenly father, we thank you for your unwavering faithfulness to all that you have promised. We are grateful... Amen.

* UNIZIK Admission Update…What You Should Know as an Aspirant*
If you’ve checked your JAMB result and are waiting for admission into Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), you’re not alone. While other schools are gearing up for post-UTME exams, UNIZIK takes a different approach.
Understanding UNIZIK’s Admission Process
Unlike some universities that conduct post-UTME exams, UNIZIK uses a screening method that combines your JAMB and O’Level results to calculate an aggregate score. This score is then used to determine admission eligibility.
Key Points You Should Know:
UNIZIK does not conduct post-UTME exams. Instead, admission is based on a calculated aggregate score derived from your JAMB and O’Level results.
Departmental cut-off marks vary by course and are used to determine who qualifies for admission into specific programs.
You can estimate your chances by calculating your aggregate using past cut-off marks (2019 is a common reference year).
What You Should Do Now:
1. Calculate your UNIZIK aggregate score using the right formula (JAMB + O’Level grading).
2. Compare it with previous departmental cut-off marks to know where you stand.
3. Keep an eye out for updates on UNIZIK’s admission portal for official screening announcements.
Final Advice:
Remember, admission is granted based on your aggregate score, while cut-off marks are the benchmarks set for each course. Make informed decisions early to improve your chances of securing admission this year. Always contact me

*UTME 2025: TRUCK PUSHERS CANNOT DIRECT PILOTS; JAMB REGISTRAR FIRES BACK AT RESIGNATION CALLS*
Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has responded strongly to critics calling for his resignation following challenges during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Speaking during a meeting with key stakeholders, including chief external examiners and civil society organizations in Abuja, Oloyede dismissed the calls for his resignation, stating that those criticizing his leadership lacked the qualifications to question his stewardship.
“Truck pushers cannot direct pilots,” he said, in reference to critics whom he believes are unqualified to advise on matters of education.
His remarks come in the wake of demands for his resignation, particularly from the South-East Caucus of the House of Representatives, following controversies that trailed this year’s UTME.
Professor Oloyede announced that JAMB will conduct a special mop-up examination for candidates who missed the 2025 UTME for genuine reasons, covering approximately 5.6% of total candidates.
“We are creating a new mop-up. Even those who missed the earlier exam due to absence will be given another opportunity. It’s not extraordinary. In any academic setting, makeup exams are normal.”
He emphasized that JAMB remains committed to inclusiveness and fairness in the exam process and reassured stakeholders that the mop-up will ensure no candidate is unjustly left out.

Stopping the fulani menace in Igboland: A cue from the Ohafia- Abiriba people.
The Ohafia and Abiriba people have successfully stopped the occupation of their forests and farmlands by the fulani jihadists by banning the purchase of cows for any purpose or celebrations. They use chicken, fish, and non fulani goats for celebrations and funerals. Their members who attempted to circumvent the no cow purchase are severely punished. They are heavily fined, and members of the community will not attend the event or touch the meat. Those that slaughtered cows in their componds for personal use are subject to the same rules. The fulani terrorists have left the area. What are we waiting for? Let every Igbo man encourage his village, town, or community to emulate the Abiriba and Ohafia people. We can't just talk about "stop buying and eating cows" without a means of implementation! Let's go and convince our people!!!Stopping the fulani menace in Igboland: A cue from the Ohafia- Abiriba people. *JAMB ANNOUNCES MOP-UP EXAMINATION FOR ABSENT CANDIDATES*
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced a fresh round of mop-up examinations to accommodate the over 5.6 per cent of candidates who missed the just-concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, made the disclosure on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, stating that the initiative will cover all affected candidates, regardless of the reason for their absence.
He said, “This time, we are creating a new mop-up. Even those who missed the earlier exam due to absence will get another opportunity.
“It’s not extraordinary. In any serious system, when students miss an exam, they’re allowed to make up—provided there’s no abuse.”
Oloyede emphasised that the UTME is a placement test, not a measure of intelligence or academic potential. “Its purpose is to rank candidates for limited admission slots, not to test how smart someone is,” he clarified.
Addressing growing criticism and conspiracy theories about the examination process, Oloyede firmly rejected claims of ethnic bias or administrative incompetence.
He stated, “I take responsibility, not because I failed, but because that’s leadership.
“I didn’t even realise people viewed issues around me through ethnic lenses. We must rise above such profiling.”
Oloyede als praised both candidates and staff for their resilience amid logistical difficulties.
“We had limited space. We knew if we wasted more time grieving the challenges, students would lose their opportunity,” he said.
The special mop-up exam will be scheduled soon, and JAMB says it remains committed to transparency and fairness in admissions.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JAMB SCORE AND SCREENING SCORE
Let this be clear — what determines your chances of being admitted is your screening score, not your JAMB score.
Yes, JAMB is important, but it only helps you qualify to apply. What truly matters for admission is your screening percentage.
The higher your screening score, the higher your chances of gaining admission.
WHAT’S THE ROLE OF JAMB SCORE THEN?
Your JAMB score is like a boundary — it shows whether you’re qualified to apply for a course or not.
Example:
• UNIOSUN general cut-off mark is 160
• But for Medicine, Law, Islamic Studies, and Nursing, the cut-off mark is 200
This means:
• If you scored below 160, you can’t apply at all to UNIOSUN.
• If you want to apply for Medicine, Law, Islamic Studies or Nursing, and you don’t have at least 200, you can’t register for the screening form.
The moment you pay and try to register, if you don’t meet the JAMB requirement, the system will automatically tell you:
“Not eligible because of low JAMB score.”
BUT AFTER THAT, IT’S ALL ABOUT SCREENING SCORE
Once you’ve registered successfully, your chance of getting admission depends on your screening score and how competitive your course is.
Someone with 200 in JAMB and 73% screening score has higher chances of being admitted than someone with 250 in JAMB but only 60% screening score.
It’s not just about JAMB — it’s about total performance.
COURSE COMPETITION MATTERS TOO
Let me give you another example.
Someone might apply for Geology with a screening score of 50% and still get admitted.
But another person with 70% might apply for Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) and not get admitted.
Why? Because some courses are more competitive than others.
Each department has a quota — a limited number of students they can admit.
MEETING THE CUT-OFF DOESN’T GUARANTEE ADMISSION
Let’s say you applied for Pharmacology, and the cut-off mark for merit is 60%.
UNIOSUN wants to admit 300 students into that department.
Now imagine:
• 250 people scored 68% and above
• 30 people scored 65%
• 40 people scored 63%
• 100 people scored between 60%–62%
You scored 60%, you met the merit cut-off, but guess what?
They might still not pick you — why?
Because:
• They’ll give about 70% preference to merit candidates
• And 30% to indigenes and catchment area candidates
So even if you meet the cut-off, you might not get in if other people scored higher than you.
⸻
BOTTOM LINE
JAMB score helps you qualify.
Screening score determines your admission chances.
Course competitiveness matters.
Meeting the cut-off doesn’t always mean admission.
At the end of the day, just pray for grace.RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JAMB SCORE AND SCREENING SCORE ⏩ Let this be clear — what determines your chances of being admitted is your screening score, not your JAMB score. *STORY TIME*
When you see two young teenagers falling in love, it is your duty as an adult to talk to them. Most of the time they don't have sense of their own; you have to lend them yours.
Immediately after my WAEC, I went for computer training in one of these road side computer schools.
There's this girl, Charity, an O' Level graduate, who was also taking the training.
After each training we'd stay behind and learn on our own.
As Charity and I became familiarized with each other, we fell in love
The guy who was tutoring us, Uncle Joe, was in his final year in the university as at that time.
One fateful day, Uncle Joe called me and said something that I'd never forget.
This was what he said, word for word:
"Samuel! Being in a serious relationship with an opposite sex at this age is not a good idea. You have a great future, one mistake and you'd spend the rest of your life paying for it."
The computer training center had two branches. Uncle Joe went to the extent of writing a transfer letter for me to move to the other center. He said I wouldn't concentrate if I was seeing Charity everyday.
I bless the day I met Uncle Joe. People like him are not up to ten on this planet.
The following day I called Charity and told her I needed some space.
She tried to reach me for a while but all thanks to Uncle Joe, I was able to put her away.
Whenever we meet we'd just give each other a 'Hi, how far' greeting.

Today I stumbled on her pre-wedding photos.
By September, she's getting married to Uncle Joe.
I'm heart broken.

FEMALE CHILD IS ENTITLED TO INHERIT PROPERTY FROM HER FATHER/FAMILY: OUR PEOPLE SHOULD RESPECT SUPREME COURT'S DECISION----- Chris Nwagboso, PhD.
Lets read this landmark judgement and acquaint ourselves accordingly.
The case of Ukeje v. Ukeje is a landmark Nigerian Supreme Court decision that affirmed the inheritance rights of women, specifically challenging the Igbo customary law that traditionally denied them the right to inherit their deceased father's property. The court's ruling stated that such discriminatory customary laws are unconstitutional and void, as they violate the fundamental right to equality guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution.
Key Aspects of the Ukeje v. Ukeje Decision:
Challenging Customary Law:
The case directly addressed the Igbo customary practice that excluded female children from inheriting their father's estate, even though they were legitimate blood relations.
Reinforcing Constitutional Rights:
The Supreme Court affirmed that the right to inherit, regardless of gender, is a fundamental right protected by the Nigerian Constitution.
Abolishing Discriminatory Practices:
The decision effectively abolished the Igbo customary practice of male primogeniture, which prioritized male heirs in inheritance.
Significance for Women's Rights:
Ukeje v. Ukeje is considered a significant victory for women's rights in Nigeria, as it established their entitlement to inherit from their deceased fathers.
Broader Implications:
The case extended beyond Igbo customary law, highlighting the importance of ensuring that customary practices do not violate constitutional rights and principles of equality and justice.
Controversies and Related Issues:
Firstborn Son's Right:
While the court affirmed the general right of female children to inherit, some argue that the firstborn son's right to inherit the main family house (obi) under Igbo custom may still be controversial.
Impact on other customary practices:
The decision has broader implications for other customary practices that may discriminate against women or other groups, raising questions about their validity under the Nigerian legal system.
Implementation and Enforcement:
The decision's impact on the ground depends on how effectively it is implemented and enforced by relevant authorities and communities.
In essence, Ukeje v. Ukeje is a landmark case that has significantly impacted Nigerian law and society by affirming the constitutional rights of women to inherit property, challenging traditional customary practices that were discriminatory, and promoting gender equality.
