Here’s what happened in Waru‑Apo, Abuja, on the night of July 24, 2025: A coordinated security operation was underway targeting suspected cultists and drug dealers based on gathered intelligence in Bakasi Yimitu Village, Waru area of the FCT. During the operation, the suspects launched a fierce ambush on security personnel and local vigilantes, known as the Destiny Hunters. A Senior Police Officer, DSP Amos Biko, and the Commander of the vigilante group, Philibus, were critically injured. DSP Amos was later confirmed dead at Shekworhishama Hospital in Kabusa. When EFCC was on his case, Nwude attempted to bribe Nuhu Ribadu, the then chairman of the EFCC, with $75,000 cash but the latter refused and Nwude was charged with attempted bribery as well as attempt to kidnap a prosecuting witness. Nwude was sentenced to five concurrent sentences of five years and was also asked to pay $10 million fine.
