In fulfillment of his campaign promise and commitment to rural development, Governor Umo Eno will today, flag off the construction of the 12.5-kilometre Nung Ukim–Afaha Obio Enwang–Nung Udoe–Itak Road, a strategic project that cuts across Uyo and Ikono Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State. The flag-off ceremony scheduled to hold today at Nung Ukim by 4:00 PM, marks a significant milestone in the state’s effort to end years of suffering experienced by residents of the affected communities due to the road’s deplorable condition. Awarded through the Ministry of Works and Fire Service, and to be executed by an indigenous firm, Verini Construction Company Limited, the road project forms part of the Governor’s push to open up rural areas and enhance connectivity under the infrastructure expansion pillar of the ARISE Agenda. With an 8-metre wide carriageway, 25 kilometres of side drains, and reinforced culverts and outfall drains at key points, the construction is designed for durability. The road will be layered with a 150mm sub-base, 150mm stone base, and a 50mm asphalt wearing course.
