The Delta State community has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Chief (Mrs.) Shimite Winifred, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Export. She was a respected trade and economic expert, known for her dedication to economic development and women empowerment.

Initial reports suggest that Shimite died as a result of domestic violence. Though details are still emerging, it is alleged that she had a fatal confrontation with her husband, Pastor David Favour, who has reportedly been arrested in connection with her death.

Human rights activist and fellow government aide, Harrison Gwamnishu, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a Facebook post on Monday, April 21, 2025. Another activist, Comrade Victor Ojie, also known as Wong Box, echoed the confirmation, urging people to prioritize their lives over staying in abusive marriages: “Marriage is not by force. It’s better to lose your marriage than to lose your life.”

Shimite’s personal aide, Tameta Sunday, expressed grief and outrage in a tribute, accusing her husband of being responsible for cutting short her life and future plans.

The late Shimite Winifred held several notable positions throughout her career. She served as the Coordinator of the Delta State UNIDO Centre and was the focal person for the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme in Delta. She also hosted African Pot, a television documentary that celebrated African cuisine, tourism, and culture.

Additionally, she was an influential member of several development and trade bodies, including the Steering Committee of USAID/NEXTT (Nigerian Expanded Trade and Transport) – Lakaji Trade Corridor, and the Board of Directors of FESECA – Foundation for Economic Change in Africa. She also contributed as an editor for Daily Trust and Leadership newspapers on travel and tourism.

Her death has sparked widespread calls for greater awareness around domestic violence and the urgent need for victims to seek safety, regardless of social or economic status.

School Principal Took On Night Shifts At Walmart To Earn Money & Help Students Facing Financial Difficulties.

Henry Darby, the principal of North Charleston High School in South Carolina, took on overnight shifts at Walmart to support his students facing financial hardships.

From 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., he stocked shelves three nights a week, dedicating his earnings to assist students with essentials like food and housing.

His selfless act garnered widespread attention, leading to a $50,000 donation from Walmart and over $195,000 raised through crowdfunding.

In recognition of his dedication, he was awarded South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the Palmetto.

Rivers Sole Administrator Appoints SSG As Head Of Service Resigns

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has appointed Prof. Ibibia Worika, a legal expert and administrator, as the new Secretary to the State Government.

In a statement, the Sole Administrator said the appointment, which takes immediate effect, followed a rigorous selection process in which Worika’s extensive experience, academic credentials, and policy expertise stood out.

In a related development, the ex-naval chief appointed Iyingi Brown as the Permanent Secretary for Welfare in the Office of the Head of Service to act as the Head of Service pending a substantive appointment.

The appointment followed the resignation of the substantive Head of Service, George Nwaeke.

In a statement, the government expressed gratitude for Nwaeke’s contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavors.

While congratulating Brown on her new role, the administrator reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Rivers State.

The statement further said Worika’s distinguished career spanned academia, international legal practice, and high-level policy advisory roles, making him well-suited to support the administrator in achieving the mandate set by President Bola Tinubu for the state.

“Professor Worika’s wealth of experience in legal scholarship, public policy, and governance will be instrumental in driving the administration’s agenda. His appointment underscores our dedication to excellence in public service,” the statement read.

The Sole Administrator emphasized his commitment to utiliing the rich human capital of Rivers State to foster peace, stability, and security.

Hailing from Okrika in Rivers State, Professor Worika is a globally recognized scholar, legal expert, and administrator with a strong background in environmental and petroleum law.

He holds a Ph.D. in International Environmental and Comparative Petroleum Law & Policy

•Giving is an act of providing something, giving is making available your time, your resources, your money and also giving support.

•Giving is without necessarily expecting anything in return.

•When we say we give to God, it means we are assisting the work of God.

•Giving is a selfless act.

•When giving is done right, it leaves you with joy, knowing that someone has benefitted from your benevolence.

•We give to deepen our faith and trust in God.

•Our giving in the house of God is purposeful and not a vain act.

•Every form of giving is principle guided and every principle operated in faith with all honesty, carries a heavy blessing for the operator - Luke 6:38

•Anyone that acts in the giving principle, will also receive the reward that the principle brings - Proverbs 11:4

•Everything you do has a way of coming back to you.

•God gives every man a forbidden fruit to test his faith. Pass your test and don't fall.

•Tithe is a levy of one tenth of all your income.

WHY DO WE TITHE?
1). Tithing is critical for us to honour God
To acknowledge the source of your blessing.

2). You tithe to enlarge your resources - 2 Corinthians 9:8

3). Curses are broken.

•You become free from financial deficit.
