In 2023 she got re-elected, polling 29,031 votes to defeat her closest opponent, Alex Ogbe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 21,741 votes.

APC CONVENES SOUTH-SOUTH SUMMIT IN EDO STATE TO STRATEGISE ON RENEWED HOPE AGENDA AND REGIONAL POLITICAL FUTURE

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the convocation of a high-level South-South Summit, aimed at consolidating its political vision under the Renewed Hope Agenda and charting a strategic course for the party’s future across the South-South geopolitical zone.

With the theme: “Renewed Hope in Action: Strengthening APC Mobilisation and Governance in the South South”, the Summit is expected to serve as a unifying platform for policy dialogue, political recalibration, and regional reawakening within the framework of the party’s national objectives.

The APC extends a formal invitation to all distinguished party stakeholders, comprising both current and former officeholders from the South-South region. These include serving and past governors, deputy governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, and key figures from the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Working Committee (NWC).

Also invited are state-level leaders, including APC chairmen and secretaries, serving and former speakers of State Houses of Assembly, federal political appointees from the region, as well as former and current zonal and state officers of the party, including youth leaders and secretaries.

Party sources indicate that the Summit will provide an opportunity to assess the party’s structural cohesion in the South-South, reflect on recent electoral dynamics, and formulate a forward-looking blueprint to strengthen the APC’s presence and political influence in the zone.

In line with the Renewed Hope philosophy espoused by the party at the national level, the South-South Summit will also deliberate on mechanisms for deepening grassroots engagement, enhancing intra-party unity, and delivering tangible democratic dividends to citizens of the region.

The convocation of such a wide spectrum of leadership underscores the party’s commitment to inclusive dialogue, strategic consensus-building, and the mobilisation of experience across generations of APC leadership in the South-South.

As the region remains a critical frontier in Nigeria’s political calculus, the Summit is expected to generate robust conversations around party consolidation, governance priorities, and the strategic repositioning of the APC ahead of future electoral cycles.

The Summit is scheduled for Saturday, 5th July 2025, at the Victor Uwaifo Centre Hub in Benin City, and is expected to commence at 10am.

Atiku was the vice president for 8years, and he's been hovering from one party to another. What is he going to tell his children? Emeka Ihedioha left PDP and joined them because Sam Daddy was not removed as PDP Secretary. Instead of these elements to say they are angry for being defeated, they said Nigerians are angry and they want to rescue Nigeria.

Six members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the house of representatives from Akwa Ibom have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers are Unyime Idem, representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency; Esin Etim, representing Mbo/Okobo/Oron/Udung Uko/Urue federal constituency; and Ekpo Asuquo who represents Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium federal constituency.

Others are Uduak Odudoh, the lawmaker representing Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo federal constituency; Okpolupm Etteh, representing Eket/Esit Eket/Ibeno/Onna federal constituency, and Okon Bassey, representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency.

Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, lawmaker representing Ikono/Ini federal constituency of Akwa Ibom, also defected from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the APC.

This Is Not 2013: Why the ADC Coalition Can’t Mirror the APC

The promoters of the new coalition like to draw parallels with what the APC achieved in 2013. But let’s be clear: this is not 2013—and this is not the APC.

In 2013, the merger that birthed the APC was driven by selflessness, national interest, and strategic discipline. The leaders at the time were willing to set aside personal ambitions for the greater good. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, despite commanding the loyalty of several sitting governors, chose to wait. He bided his time, played the long game, and focused on building a viable political platform. He had never lost an election, and he didn’t have to force his way in.

Now contrast that with today’s coalition. The chief promoter is a serial election loser, clutching at what he clearly sees as his last shot at the presidency. Unlike Tinubu, he enters the coalition alone—without the backing of his state governor, his region, or any meaningful political structure. His ambition is personal, not patriotic. So also that of his many co-travelers.
