The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has relocated to Makurdi, the Benue State capital, over the incessant k!11!ngs of innocent villagers by herders and militia groups.

The k!ll!ng, which is becoming almost a daily occurrence, has left many dead, several others injured and maimed, and several houses burnt, leaving many homeless.

It was gathered that Lt Gen Oluyede departed Abuja, Tuesday morning, accompanied by his Principal Stafftaff Officers (PSOs) and other top officers at the Army Headquarters, to the state to have an on-the-spot assessment of the situation on the ground.

Sources further said the army chief has ordered the deployment of more troops to the state to give the militia and other armed groups terrorising the people of the state the battle of their lives.

In Benue State, the source said, the COAS will hold strategic meetings with all operational and unit commanders to brainstorm on the way forward as well as review the ongoing operations with a view to end the killings.

The COAS will also visit troops’ locations and operational bases in the state to interact with troops and boost their morale and fighting spirit.

The COAS is also expected to visit villages that have been attacked and reassure residents of their safety and the resolve of the Nigerian army to protect the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.

The COAS is said to be unhappy with reports of daily killings in Benue that have ravaged the state in the past few weeks and may order some strategic changes, including the redeployment of some commanders to head some of the operational units on ground.

General Oluyede, while in the state, will personally lead troops in the operation on the battlefront. He is expected to spend some days in the state before relocating back to Abuja.

Recall that the attacks in Benue have been described as ethnic cleansing by many, as gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have embarked on a killing spree, attacking villagers in the state.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the payment of the revised ₦77,000 monthly allowance to serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, following months of delays attributed to budgetary constraints. This increase, announced in September 2024 to align with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, raised the stipend from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000, effective from July 2024.

While current corps members have begun receiving the updated allowance, the government has pledged to pay the backlog of arrears to those who served during the period of the announced increment but had completed their service before the payments commenced. The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, assured that all affected ex-corps members would receive their entitled arrears, although he noted that the payments might not be immediate.

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, reiterated this commitment, stating that the government is conscious of its promise and will handle the arrears within the budgetary provisions once funds are available.

This development comes after advocacy groups, such as the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), highlighted the non-payment of ₦77,000 to over 618,000 ex-corps members who exited the scheme between February and November 2024.

While the disbursement of the new allowance marks a significant milestone, corps members and ex-corps members continue to anticipate the resolution of pending arrears, hoping that the government follows through on its promises without further delays.

*Many Bandits Drown While Escaping From Soldiers As Nigerian Army Claim Huge Victory*

As reported by DAILY POST, troops from the Joint Task Force North West, operating under Operation Fasan Yama, have eliminated at least 21 terrorists responsible for disturbances and destruction in Katsina State.

On Friday, the Nigerian Army announced via their official social media page that a successful operation took place in Ruwan Godiya, a community located in Faskari Local Government Area.

The Army reported that the soldiers engaged in an intense gun battle with the terrorists and emerged victorious. The battle was so fierce that the terrorists were forced to flee from their lair.

During the escape attempt, 21 of the attackers were killed, and some drowned in a nearby river while trying to flee.

The military additionally reported that the operation resulted in the retrieval of a significant quantity of weapons and equipment. The items encompassed various types of firearms, rifles, magazines, explosives, communication devices, mobile phones, and motorcycles utilized by the terrorists.

This represented a significant victory for the military in the battle against insurgents in northern Nigeria, a region that has faced violent attacks, killings, and kidnappings by armed groups for years.

The Nigerian Army commended the troops for their courage and assured that similar operations would persist to eliminate the terrorists and bring peace back to the impacted regions.

They urged community members to assist security forces by providing any valuable information that could aid in finding criminals concealed in the vicinity.

1. A bill for General Elections to the Office of the President, State Governors, National Assembly, State Houses of Assembly and Local Government Area Councils shall be conducted simultaneously on the same date.

2. A bill for the Establishment of State Police and Local Government Police.

3. A bill to Establish the FCT House of Assembly.

4. Court of Appeal the Final Appeal Court in Governorship, National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petitions.

5. A bill to Provide for Compulsory Resignation of National and State Executive Members of Political Parties Seeking Elective Government Positions.

6. A bill to Provide for the Determination of All Appeals Arising from Election Petition Tribunals Prior to Swearing-in of President-Elect, Vice-President-Elect, Governor-Elect, Deputy Governor-Elect, Members-Elect of the National and State Assembles.

7. A bill to Vest the INEC with the Power to Conduct Local Government Area Council Elections.

8. A bill to Require the Official Resignation from Political Party before Defection by Members of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly.

9. A Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) to grant the National Assembly Power to Alter Timelines for Election Tribunals.

10. A Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Cap. C23, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to Establish the National Local Government Electoral Commission as an Independent Body Responsible for Organising, Conducting, and Supervising Elections into the Offices of Chairmen and Councilors of all the Local Governments Across the Federation, Including the Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory, ensure the Credibility, Transparency, and Fairness of Local Government Elections and Promote Democratic Governance at the Grassroots Level.

11. A Bill for an Act to Alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to relieve the State Independent Electoral Commissions of the powers to conduct Local Government Council elections and bestow same on the Independent National Electoral Commission.

12. A Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as altered) to Provide for Special Seats for the Physically Challenged Persons in Nigeria's Federal, State and Local Government Areas, and Legislative Houses.

13. A Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as (amended) to provide for Six Special Seats for Special Interest Groups in the House of Representatives.

14. A Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to Change the Name of the Auditor-General of the Federation to Auditor-General of the Federal Government.

15. A Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 to Remove the Restriction Placed on Power and Duties of the Auditor-General of the Federation and States by Sections 85(2) and 125(2) Respectively and to Insert New Sections in the Constitution that Shall Provide for the Financial Autonomy of the Offices of the Auditor-General of the Federation and of the States.

16. A Bill for an Act to Alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to strengthen the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation and the Auditor-General of a State.

17. A Bill to Establish and Empower the Political Parties Registration and Regulatory Commission to Register, Regulate, and Monitor the Organization and Operation of Political Parties.

18. A Bill to Expand the Number of Justices of the Supreme Court, enhance Service efficiency and timely dispensation of Justices, Improve Citizens' Access to Justice and Conform with Federal Character Principles.
