Day 5 of Salary Detox Challenge: Say No to Impulse.
About 10 years ago, our current Group General Manager was still working as my PA. One afternoon, One investment opportunity came and I asked her a simple question:
“Have you saved up to a million naira for investment?”
She looked at me and told me frankly that she hadn’t even saved half of that. So I sat her down, not to judge her, but to help her find the leak.
I advised her to thoroughly go through her expenses, one by one, and what she found out shocked both of us.
She was a hard worker, a high performer… but her bank account didn’t reflect her effort.
Why did i say that? Impulse buying.
She would walk into supermarkets without a list, buying whatever caught her eye just because there was money in her account.
She would scroll online and buy anything that looked “fine” or trendy, whether she needed it or not.
She gave money emotionally to anyone who asked, as if she alone could solve everybody’s problems.
And she always believed in her mind that you dont have to worry, the next salary is coming.
That mindset was eating deep into her future and she never noticed it.
So I gave her a new order,
Never enter a supermarket or any market environment without a written list.
Told her to sell the things she bought but never used.
And adviced her to stick to a monthly budget and save up 50% of her salary for investment if she was too hungry to succeed. Also, to stop giving out money emotionally.
That was her turning point. And today? She leads an entire group. She didn’t just stop impulse buying, she started building wealth and modelling it intentionally.
So today's Challenge, you too must face the spirit of impulse that’s eating your future.
Say NO to anything not in your budget.
Say NO to emotions at checkout.
Say NO to "I feel like it."
Please, say no to impulse and fix the leak, then say YES to discipline and to your future.

🙋🏻♀️ *How would you rate your consistency level in general?*
= *Highly Consistent:* "My consistency is rock-solid. I almost always stick to my plans, routines, and goals, which helps me achieve what I set out to do."
= *Mostly Consistent:* "I'm generally very consistent, especially with important tasks and habits. There might be occasional slips, but I quickly get back on track."
= *Fairly Consistent:* "I try to be consistent, and often succeed, but I do have moments where I struggle to maintain routines. It's a work in progress."
= *Inconsistently Consistent:* "My consistency comes in waves. I can be really disciplined for a while, then lose momentum, making it hard to build lasting habits."
= *Rarely Consistent:* "Consistency is a real challenge for me. I often find it hard to stick with things, which can make reaching goals feel difficult."

10 Things Lagos Landlords Won’t Tell You Until It’s Too Late
(Read this BEFORE you pay rent!)
If you’re planning to rent an apartment in Lagos, don’t let that fresh paint deceive you. Many tenants only discover the real truth after they’ve paid in full and moved in—by then, it’s too late. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Here are 10 shady secrets Lagos landlords won’t tell you, but you NEED to know before renting:
1. “It Doesn’t Flood… Except That One Time”
Many landlords will boldly say “no flooding here,” but once the rain starts, your living room turns into a fishpond. Always inspect after rainfall—or ask neighbors quietly.
2. “There’s Steady Light” – Until You Move In
They’ll tell you the transformer is solid. Reality? You might only get light two times a week, and most tenants rely on gen and candles.
3. “Other Tenants Are Peaceful” – But the Compound Is a Warzone
From neighbors fighting over parking space to 3 a.m. loud music, you may end up in a mini-ghetto with no peace of mind.
4. “We Just Renovated” – Only Paint, Nothing Else
Renovated means they sprayed fresh paint on a building that’s leaking, cracking, or termite-infested. Always check toilets, ceilings, and piping yourself.
5. “Water Runs 24/7” – But the Pump Is Always Off
Some compounds only pump water once a week or expect you to “contribute fuel” for the pumping machine. No water = wahala.
6. “Security Is Tight” – But Gate No Get Padlock
They’ll promise a secure compound, but at night, the gate is wide open, the fence is low, and the night guard sleeps off by 10 p.m.
7. “The Landlord Doesn’t Disturb” – Until He Starts Collecting Fines for Everything
Once you’re in, you’ll start hearing:
“₦2,000 for painting stairs.”
“₦1,500 for compound cleaning.”
“₦5,000 for generator stand fee.”
No peace of mind.
8. “Generator Is Allowed” – But Then He Bans It
You buy your gen, set it up, and suddenly the landlord says “no noise pollution.” Or you can only use it for 2 hours max.
9. “We’re a Family Compound” – But Tenants Mind Only Their Family
Family house dramas, landlords living in the same building, or landlords fighting tenants over who should lock the gate? It’s real.
10. “You’re the First to See It” – But Ten Others Have Paid Caution Fee
They pressure you to pay immediately, saying “others are interested.” Don’t fall for it. Do your checks and take your time.
