Deadly US strikes hit Yemen fuel port used by Huthis
    https://jordantimes.com/news/region/deadly-us-strikes-hit-yemen-fuel-port-used-huthis

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->SANAA — The US military said it had destroyed a key Yemeni fuel port as it targets the country's Huthi rebels, who said Friday that 20 people had been killed in the strikes.

The attack on the Ras Issa fuel port aimed to cut off a source of supplies and funds for the Iran-backed Huthis, the US military said.

Washington has hammered the Huthis with near-daily air strikes since March 15 in a bid to end their attacks on civilian shipping and military vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

The rebels began their attacks in late 2023, claiming solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Israel's army said Friday they had intercepted an incoming missile from Yemen.

In a statement, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said: "US forces took action to eliminate this source of fuel for the Iran-backed Huthi terrorists and deprive them of illegal revenue that has funded Huthi efforts to terrorise the entire region for over 10 years.

"The objective of these strikes was to degrade the economic source of power of the Huthis, who continue to exploit and bring great pain upon their fellow countrymen".

Ships "have continued to supply fuel via the port of Ras Issa" despite Washington designating the rebels a foreign terrorist organisation earlier this year, the military command added, without specifying the source of the fuel.

Huthi health ministry spokesman Anees Alasbahi said the preliminary death toll stood at 20, including five paramedics.

There were also "50 wounded workers and employees at the Ras Issa oil port, following the American aggression", he said on X.

"The death toll is likely to rise as body parts are still being identified," he added.

    Fireball

The port lies along the west coast of Yemen on the Red Sea.

In images broadcast early Friday by the rebels' Al-Masira channel, which it presented as the "first images of the US aggression" against the port, a fireball lit up the area around the ships, while thick columns of smoke rose above what appeared to be an ongoing blaze.

"Civil defence rescue teams and paramedics are making every effort to search for and extract victims and extinguish the fire," said Alasbahi.

The Huthis have regularly fired missiles and drones on Israel since the war in Gaza broke out in October 2023 following an attack on Israel by Hamas militants.

"Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in several areas in Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted," Israel's army said Friday on Telegram, adding that aerial defence systems had been deployed "to intercept the threat".

Huthi attacks have hampered shipping through the Suez Canal -- a vital route that normally carries about 12 percent of world shipping traffic -- forcing many companies into a costly detour around the tip of southern Africa.

The United States first began conducting strikes against the Huthis under president Joe Biden's administration, and his successor President Donald Trump has vowed that military action against the rebels would continue until they are no longer a threat to shipping.

On Thursday evening, France's Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu said a French frigate in the Red Sea destroyed a drone launched from Yemen.

"Our armed forces continue their commitment to ensuring maritime freedom of movement," he said on X.

US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce told journalists Thursday that the Chinese satellite firm Chang Guang Satellite Technology Company was "directly supporting Iran-backed Huthi terrorist attacks on US interests".

"Their actions -- and Beijing's support of the company, even after our private engagements with them -- is yet another example of China's empty claims to support peace," she said.

Bruce did not initially provide details on the nature of the company's support for the rebels, but later referred to "a Chinese company providing satellite imagery to the Huthis."

Hizbollah 'will not let anyone disarm' it, says chief
    https://jordantimes.com/news/region/hizbollah-will-not-let-anyone-disarm-it-says-chief

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->BEIRUT, Lebanon — Hizbollah "will not let anyone disarm" it, the Lebanese group's leader Naim Qassem said Friday, as Washington presses Beirut to compel the Iran-backed movement to hand over its weapons.

Hezbollah, long a dominant force in Lebanese politics, was left weakened by more than a year of hostilities with Israel sparked by the Gaza war, including an Israeli ground incursion and two months of heavy bombardment that decimated the group's leadership.

The fighting was largely brought to an end by a November ceasefire, but not before the group's longtime leader and Qassem's predecessor Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli air strike.

"We will not let anyone disarm Hezbollah or disarm the resistance" against Israel, Qassem said in remarks on a Hezbollah-affiliated TV channel.

"We must cut this idea of disarmament from the dictionary."

His comments came hours after another Hizbollah official said the group refused to discuss handing over its weapons unless Israel withdrew completely from south Lebanon and halted its "aggression".

"It is not a question of disarming," Wafic Safa said in an interview with Hizbollah’s Al-Nur radio station.

"What the president (Joseph Aoun) said in his inauguration speech is a defensive strategy."

Safa, believed by experts to belong to the movement's most radical faction, said Hezbollah had conveyed its position to Aoun, who on Tuesday said he sought "to make 2025 the year of restricting arms to the state".

In his interview, Safa asked: "Wouldn't it be logical for Israel to first withdraw, then release the prisoners, then cease its aggression... and then we discuss a defensive strategy?

"The defensive strategy is about thinking about how to protect Lebanon, not preparing for the party to hand over its weapons."

Analysts have said that the once unthinkable idea of Hezbollah disarming may no longer be so, and may even be inevitable.

    Problem is Israel'

Under the November ceasefire, Israel was meant to withdraw all of its forces from south Lebanon.

But despite the deal, its troops have remained at five south Lebanon positions that they deem "strategic".

Israel has also continued to carry out near-daily strikes against Lebanon -- including on Friday -- saying it is targeting members of Hezbollah.

Under the truce, Hizbollah was to pull its fighters back north of Lebanon's Litani River and dismantle any remaining military infrastructure in the south.

Lebanon's army has been deploying in the south as Israeli forces pulled back.

Hezbollah says the ceasefire does not apply to the rest of Lebanon, despite being based on UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for the disarmament of non-state groups.

Hizbollah was the only group to keep its weapons after Lebanon's 15-year civil war ended in 1990, saying that they were for "resistance" against Israel, which continued to occupy the south until 2000.

US special envoy for the Middle East Morgan Ortagus, who visited Beirut this month, said Washington continued to press Beirut "to fully fulfil the cessation of hostilities, and that includes disarming Hizbollah and all militias".

Safa said on Friday that both Hezbollah and the Lebanese army were respecting the terms of the truce.

"The problem is Israel, which has not done so," he said.

On Saturday, a source close to Hezbollah told AFP that the group had ceded to the Lebanese army around 190 of its 265 military positions identified south of the Litani.

US to withdraw some 1,000 troops from Syria
    https://jordantimes.com/news/world/us-withdraw-some-1000-troops-syria

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->WASHINGTON — The United States will roughly halve the number of troops it has deployed in Syria to less than 1,000 in the coming months, the Pentagon said Friday.

Washington has had troops in Syria for years as part of international efforts against the Daesh terror group, which rose out of the chaos of the country's civil war to seize swaths of territory there and in neighboring Iraq over a decade ago.

The brutal extremists have since suffered major defeats in both countries, but still remain a threat.

"Today the secretary of defense directed the consolidation of US forces in Syria... to select locations," Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement, without specifying the sites where this would take place.

"This deliberate and conditions-based process will bring the US footprint in Syria down to less than 1,000 US forces in the coming months," he said.

President Donald Trump has long been skeptical of Washington's presence in Syria, ordering the withdrawal of troops during his first term but ultimately leaving American forces in the country.

As Islamist-led rebels pressed forward with a lightning offensive last December that ultimately overthrew Syrian president Bashar Al Assad, Trump said Washington should "NOT GET INVOLVED!"

"Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT," Trump, then the president-elect, wrote on his Truth Social platform.

    Years of war against Daesh

The 2014 onslaught by Daesh prompted a US-led air campaign in support of local ground forces -- the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Iraqi government units.

Washington also deployed thousands of American personnel to advise and assist local forces, with US troops in some cases directly fighting the jihadists.

After years of bloody warfare, Iraq's prime minister announced a final victory over IS in December 2017, while the SDF proclaimed the defeat of the group's "caliphate" in March 2019 after seizing its final bastion in Syria.

But the extremists still have some fighters in the countryside of both countries, and US forces have long carried out periodic strikes and raids to help prevent the group's resurgence.

Washington stepped up military action against Daesh in Syria in the wake of Assad's overthrow, though it has more recently shifted its focus to strikes targeting Yemen's Huthi rebels, who have been attacking international shipping since late 2023.

US forces in Iraq and Syria were repeatedly targeted by pro-Iran militants following the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, but responded with heavy strikes on Tehran-linked targets, and the attacks largely subsided.

Washington for years said it had some 900 military personnel in Syria as part of international efforts against Daesh, but the Pentagon announced in December 2024 that the number of US troops in the country had doubled to around 2,000 earlier in the year.

While the United States is reducing its forces in Syria, Iraq has also sought an end to the US-led coalition's presence there, where Washington has said it has some 2,500 troops.

The United States and Iraq have announced that the coalition would end its decade-long military mission in federal Iraq by the end of 2025, and by September 2026 in the autonomous Kurdistan region.

Deadly US strikes hit Yemen fuel port used by Huthis
SANAA — The US military said it had destroyed a key Yemeni fuel port as it targets the country's Huthi rebels, who said Friday that 20 people had been killed in the strikes. Mayor of Konotop Blames Regional Governor for Military Gathering at Site of Russian StrikeAdding Rubio's X comment about this strike, at bottom. Parts 1 and part 2 uploaded this morning.Video Description: Mayor of Konotop Blames Regional Governor for Military Gathering at Site of Russian StrikeKonotop Mayor threatened he will reveal what happened in Sumy — and he did.The Mayor of Konotop, Artem Semenikhin (of the neo-Nazi Svoboda party, who used to drive around Sumy with the numbers 14/88 on his car), claimed that members of Ukraine’s 117th Territorial Defense Brigade were gathered at the site of the recent Russian strike on Sumy, marking the unit’s 7th anniversary.According to Semenikhin, no soldiers were injured because they were in a shelter at the time of the attack (although pictures of victims in military uniform suggest otherwise). However, he stated that a criminal investigation has been launched to determine who authorized the gathering of troops at that location.Semenikhin personally blamed regional governor Volodymyr Artyukh, accusing him of irresponsibly organizing the military event, saying: “Everyone knows he was the one who came up with this.”Earlier, Ukrainian MP Mariana Bezuhla and former MP Ihor Mosiychuk also made similar statements.Konotop Mayor Accuses Ukrainian Governor of Covering Up March Explosion in SumyThe Mayor of Konotop, Artem Semenikhin, has publicly challenged the official account of a powerful explosion that struck the city of Sumy on March 24. Contrary to government claims that it was caused by a Russian missile strike, Semenikhin insists the blast was not the result of any incoming missile. The mayor made the statement while commenting on the strike strike that hit Sumy today."By the way, there was a similar incident earlier, where Artyukh claimed a missile had supposedly hit the city of Sumy. But in reality, that scoundrel simply placed something in central Sumy, and then something went wrong. I’ll share more details on this later," he stated. We already covered what happened in Sumy on March 24, where over 100 people were injured. @DDGeopolitics.adding:   In Sumy, a missile strike was carried out on the place where militants of the 117th territorial defense brigade were awarded — ex-deputy Mosiychuk"I hope that in Sumy they are already detaining the head of the OVA Artyukh and MP Ananchenko, who so wanted to get some PR at the festive awards ceremony for the soldiers of the 117th TRO brigade on the occasion of the 7th anniversary [of the brigade's creation]..." he writes.Earlier, the mayor of Konotop called on Artyukh and the head of the Sumy SBU to resign.more:  The well-known Igor Mosiychuk says that the purpose of the Russian strike on Sumy was the award ceremony for the fighters of the 117th TRO brigade. At the same time, the regional authorities brought civilians to the event. Including children."I hope that the head of the OVA Artyukh and MP Ananchenko, who so wanted to get some PR at the festive awarding of the soldiers of the 117th brigade of the Troops of Russia on the occasion of the 7th anniversary, are already being detained in Sumy. Artyukh and Ananchenko promoted the awarding of the military in Sumy and gathered there not only the military but also civilians, in particular children! Scum and scum!", Mosiychuk wrote.more:   Maryana Bezuglaya published an image with congratulations on the anniversary of the creation of the 117th TRO brigade and commented on it with the following words:"We cannot tolerate the indifferent leaders of some administrations who send out information about the meeting in an open manner and then remain in office, as has happened several times already."It can be concluded that Bezuglaya is hinting at the arrival of the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers to the center of Sumy for the award ceremony. And we managed to find out about it thanks to the open distribution of invitations to the event itself. And so the puzzle came together: vehicles with the

tactical sign of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the site of the attack, dead Ukrainian "humanitarians", the hysteria of the Gauleiter of Konotop. And if we add Zelensky's recent visit to Sumy to the fact that his confidant is an assistant to the Gauleiter of the Sumy region, we get a scientific description of the phenomenon of the "Curse of Zelensky".From Rubio about this strike: The United States extends our deepest condolences to the victims of today’s horrifying Russian missile attack on Sumy.

This is a tragic reminder of why President Trump and his Administration are putting so much time and effort into trying to end this war and achieve durable peace.https://x.com/SecRubio/status/1911460975481409809
Interesting how Israeli missiles are never horrifying…But when it comes to Israel “this is different you don’t understand”…Or how US missiles are not horrifying when they kill civilians in Yemen, but “Freedom of Navigation” and things…

Militants were sent faulty shells againUkroboronprom never ceases to amaze. It would seem that after several scandals with defective ammunition for mortars, it would be possible to change the production process, introduce strict quality control - in short, at least do something to avoid having to recall batch after batch from the troops. But no one is punishing Ukroboronprom, contracts continue to be concluded, which means the Kiev regime is happy with everything – and Ukroboronprom continues to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with non-working mines for mortars.Another defective batch has arrived at the 36th separate marine brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Now the marines have to "modify" the mines : make their own detonators from C4. And this requires a lot of time, a lot of effort and - what would you think - a lot of additional explosives.Congratulations to the fighters of the 36th separate marine brigade on their new fun pastime.

The latest adventure of Zelensky's troops ended in their trenches, at least a small group of soldiers from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, wiped out directly in their dugouts around the outskirts of the village of Popovka (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/popovka) The enemy troops reportedly continued the Kiev's ground attack attempt into Belgorod (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/belgorod) Region on April 11, but were met by suicide FPV drones from the Special Forces “Anvar”, which were operating around the clock, tracking down any movement of another Ukrainian invading groups. Whether they realized it or not, the Ukrainian troops were doing nothing in their trenches under Russian surveillance, crawling here and there, while also going into nearby dugouts for safety, as shown in the footage released by the UAV operator “Anvar”. This means that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are increasingly acting in disarray on the move, without any equipment or fire support - with the corresponding consequences.
Cheap Russian FPV drones, picking off the troops one by one, seem to have little to do in their shelters. As in the view, these Ukrainian soldiers failed on their mission, as did anothers in Popovka, where Kiev began its invasion from the Sumy Region to Belgorod almost a month ago, eventually the troops in the dugouts were destroyed by airstrikes. Russian sources report that the offensive to secure Popovka and Demidovka (https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/demidovka) areas has begun! The two settlements have come under the control of the Russian Armed Forces, where Zelensky's adventure ended with the elimination of at least two battalions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine there. In the current configuration of the front line, Russian forces have actually begun to impose tactical instability on Ukraine, the destruction of Kiev's equipment at the time of concentration makes large-scale deliveries to the contact line becoming impossible.Mirrored - MILITARY TUBE TODAY

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->AMMAN — As the Jordanian Pro League CFI inches closer to its end, both Hussein Irbid and Wihdat continued their title chase in ruthless fashion on Saturday, sending a strong message to each other ahead of their highly anticipated showdown.
At  Al Hassan Stadium, league leaders Hussein Irbid made light work of Al Ahli, thrashing them 5-0 in a performance that showcased their attacking depth and hunger for the title.
Majdi Al Attar opened the scoring early, pouncing on a defensive error and sliding it past the keeper.
Rizq Bani Hani stole the spotlight with a confident bracefirst finishing off a sweeping counterattack, then converting a clever through ball with a calm finish.
Sisa  added the fourth, capitalising on a rebound inside the box, and the final blow came from Mohammad Abu Zureiqwho curled in a beautiful effort from outside the area to round off the five-star display.
With this result, Hussein Irbid now sit top with 46 points, remaining unbeaten and unfazed by the chasing pack.
Later that night in Aqaba, Wihdat answered back and in same style
The Green Giants dismantled Shabab Al Aqaba 4-0 at Prince Mohammad Stadium, showing they’re just as hungry for the trophy.
Gueye set the tone instantly scoring in the 3rd minute after making a sharp run, finishing a precise through pass with composure.
The pressure continued to mount as Daniel Afaneh found the net in the 19th minute, scoring a great header after a well placed cross.
Just after halftime, Gueye bagged his second after a successful counter attack, making it 3-0.
The final goal came from Ibrahim Sabra in the 54th minute, who unleashed a fierce right-footed strike that swerved past the goalkeeper.
With this vital away win, Wihdat climb to 42 points, cutting Hussein Irbid’s lead back down to four points.
With only few weeks remaining, all eyes turn to their next meeting, a decisive clash at King Abdullah II Stadium in Quesmeh that could ultimately shape the fate of this year's championship.
A win for Al Hussein Irbid on Saturday will clinch the league, regardless of the results that follow.

Our Warfighters, the Greatest the World has ever seen, will find them, and bring them to swift Justice. • Abba Kyari in Trouble as Court issues Fresh Order on Cocaine Case
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, and his co-defendants must open their defence in the ongoing drug trafficking case filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The ruling, delivered on Friday, April 11, followed a series of no-case submissions filed by the defendants, which the court dismissed. Justice Nwite held that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case against the embattled officer and his co-accused.

Kyari, a former Head of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), was arrested on February 14, 2022, after the NDLEA declared him wanted over alleged involvement with an international drug cartel.

He is standing trial alongside four other police officers—ACP Sunday J. Ubua, ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirgba, and Inspector John Nuhu—on charges of conspiracy to deal in 17.55kg of cocaine, unlawful dealing, and tampering with evidence.

The defendants were arraigned on March 7, 2022, alongside two suspected drug traffickers, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne, who were apprehended at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu. While Kyari and the four officers pleaded not guilty, Umeibe and Ezenwanne pleaded guilty and were subsequently convicted.

Following the closure of the NDLEA’s case, the defence team filed a no-case submission, arguing that the evidence presented was insufficient for conviction. However, in five separate rulings, Justice Nwite disagreed.

“Assuming without conceding that the defendants were charged with a quantity of cocaine either less or more than 17.55kg, it does not negate the fact that prima facie evidence exists showing the 1st defendant dealt with or tampered with cocaine,” the judge stated in his ruling on Kyari’s application.

The court has adjourned the matter to May 21, 2025, for the defendants to open their defence

The Trump administration has officially ended temporary deportation protections for thousands of Afghans and Cameroonians living in the US under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson announced Friday.

Roughly 14,600 Afghans will lose TPS protections in May, while around 7,900 Cameroonians will face termination in June.

The TPS program shields migrants from deportation to war-torn countries or those facing natural disasters and grants them work authorization. However, the Trump administration has argued that the TPS has been misused to allow migrants to remain in the US indefinitely, making its rollback part of a wider crackdown on immigration.

According to Reuters, Witkoff proposed that the quickest way to broker a ceasefire would be for Washington to formally acknowledge Russia's claim over four contested regions: Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, and Zaporozhye.

According to Reuters, Special Envoy Steven Witkoff suggested that the quickest path to a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire would be for the United States to formally recognize Russia’s claim over four disputed regions: Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, and Zaporozhye.

The recommendation followed Witkoff’s trip to Saint Petersburg, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. Talks reportedly focused on possible avenues for ending the war.

Sources say the envoy had also met privately with Dmitriev in Washington days earlier before presenting the proposal to Trump. General Keith Kellogg, Trump’s Special Envoy for Russia and Ukraine, was in attendance and opposed the idea, stating, “Kiev would never agree to simply give up its claim on the four regions.”
