They say there once lived a man so lazy… he did absolutely nothing from sunrise to sunset.
His wife, fed up with doing everything on her own, kept telling him:
— “You can’t go on like this! I work all day, and you don’t even get up! You’re going to wear me out!”
To which he calmly replied:
— “Don’t worry, my love… one day we’ll be rich and you won’t have to work anymore.”
— “And how exactly will we get rich if you don’t even move?”
— “They say there’s a wise man beyond the mountains who has all the answers. I’ll go ask him.”
And so, despite his laziness, the man set off the next day.
Along the road, he met a skinny, miserable-looking wolf.
— “Where are you headed?” asked the wolf.
— “To ask the wise man how to become rich.”
— “If you do, could you also ask him why I’m so thin? No matter how much I eat, I never gain weight.”
— “Sure,” said the lazy man.
Further on, he came across an apple tree with rotting fruit.
— “Please, ask the wise man why my apples rot before they ripen.”
— “No problem.”
And then a fish gasped from a nearby lake:
— “Help me… there’s something stuck in my throat. Please ask the wise man what to do.”
— “Will do,” said the lazy man.
After a long journey, he found the wise man meditating at sunset.
— “What can I do to become rich?” asked the man. “Also, I have a few more questions…”
The wise man answered:
— “The fish has a gem lodged in its throat. If someone removes it, they’ll gain treasure and the fish will heal.”
— “The tree has a chest of gold buried under its roots. Dig it up and the tree will bear healthy fruit.”
— “And the wolf? He must eat the first lazy man he meets on his path.”
— “What about me? How do I become rich?”
— “Simple. Retrace your steps.”
The lazy man grinned. “Perfect! I don’t have to do anything at all.”
As he passed the fish again:
— “Take the gem! It’s yours!”
— “Jump in the water? No thanks. The wise man said I just have to walk back.”
The tree pleaded:
— “Dig under my roots! You’ll find treasure!”
— “Dig? Too much work.”
Finally, he reached the wolf.
— “What did the wise man say about me?”
— “He said you must eat the first lazy man you find.”
— “Perfect,” said the wolf.
And just like that… laziness devoured the lazy man — literally.
Moral:
Laziness doesn’t just steal your opportunities — it can consume you.
He had the path to wealth in his hands.
But he didn’t want to get wet.
Didn’t want to dig.
Didn’t want to help.
Even when the reward was certain.
Effort isn’t a punishment — it’s the only real path to growth, success, and purpose.
There’s no magic formula.
Only work, persistence, and heart.
Success doesn’t come to those who wait…
It comes to those who move.
So ask yourself today:
How far are you really willing to go for your dream?
