*10 Success and Life Lessons from Billionaire Tyler Perry*
*And Why Achieving Your Dreams Matters Because Other People's Dreams Depend on It*

    *Written by Dr. Laide Okubena*

*From Grass to Grace: The Tyler Perry Story*

Tyler Perry’s journey didn’t begin in luxury, influence, or success. It began in pain, poverty, and a broken home. He was born into a household marred by abuse and trauma. As a child, he endured physical and emotional suffering. In fact, he once legally changed his first name from Emmitt to Tyler to distance himself from his abusive father.

But amid the storms, Tyler found healing in writing. He started penning letters to himself, a practice inspired by an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Those letters would eventually birth scripts—scripts no one wanted to see at first.

He lived in his car for months. His plays flopped. Critics dismissed him. Audiences ignored him. But he didn’t give up.

Fast forward years later—Tyler Perry built a $250 million film studio in Atlanta, Georgia, on what used to be a Confederate military base. That land, once a symbol of slavery, now hosts stories told by a Black man for the world to see. He is not just a filmmaker; he is a movement. He is a billionaire today, not because of luck, but because of relentless persistence.

*Now, let’s dive into 10 Success and Life Lessons You Can Learn From Tyler Perry:*

*1. Your Past Doesn’t Define Your Future*

Tyler’s abusive childhood didn’t stop him from rising. No matter your background, you can re-write your story—one choice at a time.

    *2. Start Small, Dream Big*

His first play, I Know I’ve Been Changed, had just 30 people in the audience—and many were friends he gave free tickets to. Still, he kept going.

*3. Believe in What You’re Building Even When No One Else Does*

When others told him to quit, he reinvested his last savings into another show. That decision changed everything. Faith in your dream must be louder than the noise around you.

*4. Turn Your Pain Into Purpose*

He used his trauma as the foundation of his characters, especially Madea—a tough, hilarious woman shaped from the matriarchs in his life. Your deepest wound can be your greatest well of creativity.

*5. Success is Inevitable When You Refuse to Quit*

Most people quit when it's hard. Tyler Perry kept showing up when it didn’t make sense. That consistency eventually paid off. Winners keep showing up.

    *6. Ownership is Power*

*He didn’t wait for Hollywood’s validation.*

He built his own studio. He owns his content. He licenses, not sells. Never beg for a seat at the table—build your own.

*7. Your Dream is Bigger Than You*

Perry said, “While you’re running from your calling, someone is waiting for you to show up.” Your success creates a path for others. Your failure may block them.

*8. Create Jobs, Not Just Wealth*

His Atlanta studio employs hundreds of creatives, giving opportunities to actors, set designers, and crew members who might never get a shot in mainstream Hollywood. Be a channel of value, not just a container of money.

*9. You Are the Brand—Protect It*

Perry is intentional about his image, values, and mission. Your reputation is the most valuable currency in the long game.

    *10. Stay Humble, Stay Hungry*

Even after billions, he remains grounded. He still speaks about faith, family, and his humble beginnings. Stay close to your source. The higher you rise, the deeper your roots must be.

*Why Your Success Matters More Than You Think*

Someone is praying for you to succeed. Maybe it’s your children watching your every move… maybe it’s a community, or even a stranger you don’t know yet. Tyler Perry’s breakthrough didn’t just benefit him—it broke generational curses for thousands of others.

Your dream is not selfish—it is sacrificial. Because once you succeed, you make room for others to rise too.

*Practical Tips From Tyler Perry’s Journey*

1.Write down your vision daily. Keep it in front of you.

2.Start with what you have. Don’t wait for perfect conditions.

3.Be consistent. Show up even when it’s hard.

4.Own your narrative. Don’t let others define you. Not Even Your Parents should define you or a Pastor or an Imam or Even a Mentor you look up to , it is God that determines what you can become, not an Human being like you.

    5.Turn rejection into redirection.

6.Invest in yourself. Take that course. Learn that skill.

    7.Build your audience. Don’t chase popularity—grow impact.

8.Pray or meditate. Stay connected to your center.

9.Save and reinvest. Use profits to expand your dream.

10.Lift others as you climb. Success that doesn't empower others is short-lived.

    *Question of the Day*

What dream are you sitting on right now that could transform lives—if only you dared to pursue it?

    *Task of the Day*

Write down one bold dream that scares you.

List 3 small actions you can take in the next 24 hours to move closer to it.

Identify one person whose life could change if you succeed. Keep their name in front of you. Let that drive you.

*Remember: Someone is waiting for you to win so they can begin.*

TODAY WISDOM *10 Success and Life Lessons from Billionaire Tyler Perry* *And Why Achieving Your Dreams Matters Because Other People's Dreams Depend on It* *From Grass to Grace: The Tyler Perry Story* Tyler Perry’s journey didn’t begin in luxury, influence, or success. *Now, let’s dive into 10 Success and Life Lessons You Can Learn From Tyler Perry:* *1. Your Past Doesn’t Define Your Future* Tyler’s abusive childhood didn’t stop him from rising. No matter your background, you can re-write your story—one choice at a time. *2. Start Small, Dream Big* His first play, I Know I’ve Been Changed, had just 30 people in the audience—and many were friends he gave free tickets to. Still, he kept going. *3. Believe in What You’re Building Even When No One Else Does* When others told him to quit, he reinvested his last savings into another show. That decision changed everything. Faith in your dream must be louder than the noise around you. *4. Turn Your Pain Into Purpose* He used his trauma as the foundation of his characters, especially Madea—a tough, hilarious woman shaped from the matriarchs in his life. Your deepest wound can be your greatest well of creativity. *5. Success is Inevitable When You Refuse to Quit* Most people quit when it's hard. Tyler Perry kept showing up when it didn’t make sense. That consistency eventually paid off. Winners keep showing up. *6. Ownership is Power* *He didn’t wait for Hollywood’s validation.* He built his own studio. He owns his content. He licenses, not sells. Never beg for a seat at the table—build your own. *7. Your Dream is Bigger Than You* Perry said, “While you’re running from your calling, someone is waiting for you to show up.” Your success creates a path for others. Your failure may block them. *8. Create Jobs, Not Just Wealth* His Atlanta studio employs hundreds of creatives, giving opportunities to actors, set designers, and crew members who might never get a shot in mainstream Hollywood. Be a channel of value, not just a container of money. *9. You Are the Brand—Protect It* Perry is intentional about his image, values, and mission. Your reputation is the most valuable currency in the long game. *10. Stay Humble, Stay Hungry* Even after billions, he remains grounded. He still speaks about faith, family, and his humble beginnings. Stay close to your source. The higher you rise, the deeper your roots must be. *Why Your Success Matters More Than You Think* Someone is praying for you to succeed. *Practical Tips From Tyler Perry’s Journey* 1.Write down your vision daily. *Question of the Day* What dream are you sitting on right now that could transform lives—if only you dared to pursue it? *Task of the Day* ✅ Write down one bold dream that scares you. ✅ List 3 small actions you can take in the next 24 hours to move closer to it. ✅ Identify one person whose life could change if you succeed. Keep their name in front of you. Let that drive you. *Remember: Someone is waiting for you to win so they can begin.*

  • To every man struggling silently — this is for you...✍🏽

We know you’ve been told to be strong, to stay quiet, to “man up.” But silence isn't strength. And pretending you're okay when you’re not isn’t the answer. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. It’s okay to not have it all together. You’re human — not a machine. You deserve support, just like anyone else.

When life feels dark, please don’t give up. You’ve made it this far — that matters. You can get through this. You are not alone, even if it feels that way. Your story still has so much left to tell. You are needed. You are loved. You have a purpose — even when you can’t see it.

This Men’s Health Month, let’s break the stigma. Let’s stop telling men to suffer in silence. Let’s remind them that talking is strength. That vulnerability is power. That healing starts when we speak up — and that talking really can save lives.

    THE ARK LEGACY PROJECT:
1,500 YEARS, 400 YEARS AND 40 YEARS AFTER HAGIA SOPHIA, ST PETERS BASILICA AND OUR LADY OF PEACE BASILICA

APPARENT LESSONS LEARNT BY BISHOP OYEDEPO

Funding and Doctrine (contd from Part 1):

Bishop Oyedepo has ensured that the Ark project didn't affect any other project in the Church. Notably, the Kingdom Care as well as Transport Schemes were initiated or re-introduced to cater primarily for challenged members of the Church. Also no offering whatsoever is raised in services with regards to the Ark project whether in Canaanland or any branch/parish since inception. I believe that this has never happened for a project anywhere close to this in the history of Christianity. No special offerings, no special group of sponsors, no nothing, yet on a personal note, my biggest givings towards any building project in my life by plain conviction has been towards the Ark project yet I am not 'begging for factory" as so many haters of the Church pretending to love the poor do on social media..

In fact whenever the mention of the Ark is made in church, it's always as a testimony or a point of thanksgiving. Prayers of thanksgiving for the Ark commenced on 17th March 2025.

It has been said that if not that the project is so close to Faith Tabernacle and too big to ignore, nobody would have known that such a gargantuan project was going on. Bishop Oyedepo's mantra remains Matthew 6:33...Seek ye first the Kingdom.... and all these things (that others are dying to get) shall be added..." Thus focusing on soul winning and not fundraising throughout the period of the mega project. He has rather emphasized reaching souls, bringing them to Church and nurturing them to growth. By so doing, souls like the harvest are preserved and the role of the Church as the Barn for harvested souls from the vineyard is maintained. There have been many instances of newly won converts including children bringing in more souls such as members of their families and loved ones to be nurtured by the Word.

Many may ask, how then is the Ark being funded? The answer lies in the first example of the Tabernacle of Moses-Spirit led sacrificial giving. As far as I can remember, during Shiloh 2015, Faith Theatre (as the Ark was then called) was introduced to the Church. It was announced that the annual Shiloh sacrifice of that year would go towards the Ark, the announcement was made again at Shiloh 2023. Personally I disregarded the quietness of the Church and went in search of the Ark Project account details. I succeeded after almost a year as it was eventually made public after 3 years. Never have I seen an organization which keeps project account details away from the public until the Ark project. The aim of keeping the account details away from the people was to keep the congregation away from any kind of pressure.

Oyedepo tells the story of how he and other leaders in the early days of the Church decided to stretch themselves to raise money to pay the Church rent of ₦3000 after a member who pledged suddenly disappointed and announcement could not be made in Church which would embarrass the pledger and put the whole Church under undue pressure.
    The Mandate states that:
The Church members or public must never be put under any kind of pressure to give towards any kind of project. Launching and appeal funds are prohibited.

    Additionally it says:
All recurrent financial obligations must be given priority over project disbursement.
    It goes further to instruct:

On no account should recurrent financial obligations to staff or third parties be delayed due to project execution.

    It then concludes on projects:
Effort to provide appropriate facilities shall not be allowed to hinder spiritual growth of the Church.

Today the Ark is heading towards completion with breakneck speed and noiselessly yet none except outsiders, onlookers, the gates of hell and the gates of men such as factory beggars who do not give but want to convert kingdom resources (whose God is their belly) are against the project and hide behind their keypads to type like sons of belial.

Some of the people criticizing the building of the Ark will rather spend time on TV watching football in some of the best stadia in the world then engage also in gambling. Same people will rather see football stadia and betting centres filled than the Church filled. It's not really about the growth of the Kingdom but an anti kingdom and Judas Iscariot mindset.

For these, the response is that the Church of Christ is not built to satisfy the gates of hell...and of men. That must have been why the Lord Jesus Christ Affirmed...

... And upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S HOUSE shall be established in the top of the mountains and shall be exalted above the hills: and all nations shall flow to it. Isaiah 2:2

The Mandate states that: The Church members or public must never be put under any kind of pressure to give towards any kind of project. Launching and appeal funds are prohibited. Additionally it says: All recurrent financial obligations must be given priority over project disbursement. It goes further to instruct: On no account should recurrent financial obligations to staff or third parties be delayed due to project execution. It then concludes on projects: Effort to provide appropriate facilities shall not be allowed to hinder spiritual growth of the Church.

Isaiah 2:2
