  • If you feel too ashamed to take a job that pays 1000 Naira a day, yet have no issue begging for 100 Naira from someone who took that same job, I won’t judge—I’ll just observe.
    But if after receiving that 100 Naira, you can’t find a smart and honest way to grow it and instead waste it, then I’ll know the problem isn’t your pocket—it’s your mindset.

  • When we first met, he told me he was living with his parents. His father's house had many rooms, so he didn’t need to rent. The girl I was five years ago would have said, "Thank you, but I don’t date a man who lives with his parents." But there’s one thing that comes with maturing or experiencing different shades of life: it makes you understand that the same situations can bring different stories.

    I said yes, hoping our story wouldn’t be like that failed relationship story I read on Silent Beads.

    He would come to my place bearing gifts and smiles. He would help around while telling me stories of how it feels to live with your parents at thirty. "They don’t respect your age ooo. They can send you to go and buy charcoal when you’ve just returned from buying pepper from the street."

    After three months of dating, I realized he’d met my friends and my mom, but I hadn’t met anyone from his side. He told me he didn’t have friends. I said fine. He told me he would take me home to say hi to his parents one day. I said okay.

    It didn’t sit well with me that I would date a man for three months and not know where he lived, so I started pressing him to take me home. He gave me excuses. He said his father hates to see him with a woman and that once he takes me home, his father might think he’s going to sleep with me and won’t respect me or our relationship again.

    I said, "That’s fine, but I want to see the brick-and-mortar you live in. I want to know the area, the color of your building, the color of the gate. Do you have a dog in there? I want to hear how it barks."

    Six months later, he decided to take me home. Not only to see the color of the building but to visit his room and spend the night.

    The Uber stopped right in front of his gate. He said, "You see, it’s a brown gate and a yellow house. Easy to see." He walked in as I followed. It was around 8 p.m. Immediately, we stepped into the compound, his demeanor changed. He murmured something loud enough for me to hear: "Why’s the light in my parents’ room on?"

    He asked me to wait while he went in to check. I was standing in the compound when a man walked up to me from behind the house. He asked who I was looking for. You look at his face and the way he walks, and you realize it’s the father. I answered respectfully, "I came with Kojo, but he’s inside."

    He changed from nonchalant to concerned. He asked, "Kojo is in the house?" I nodded. He asked again, "Who are you? Who are you to him?" I answered while bowing, "He’s my friend."

    I said friend, but he got angry. Then he shouted Kojo’s name. When Kojo was coming out, his mom followed, and then a boy, and later a girl. His face didn’t look cheerful—like he had encountered a ghost and wanted to run. His father said, "So you thought we hadn’t returned, so you were sneaking in your new victim, right?"

    His mom asked who I was, and I said a friend. She asked, "A friend, and you’re being sneaked in at this time? What kind of friends are you?" I stood there watching while those two kids kept calling him Daddy and asking him a series of questions, like children always do. I was getting the message. All was not well.

    His mom said, "These two kids are his. I hope you know that already?" His dad added, "He had them with two different women. I hope you also know that? He impregnated the women in the same month, so these two kids were born days apart. Do you know all that?"

    I started smiling shyly. His dad wasn’t having it. His mom kept smiling. She said, "If you know all that and you’re still happy, then welcome home."

    I took two steps backward. I looked at Kojo’s face, but he avoided my gaze. I thanked his parents and told them I didn’t know all that because he hadn’t told me. I mentioned his name and said goodbye to him. I walked out of the gate with a heavy head and a heart that was falling apart.

    When I got home, I texted him, "Thank you for letting me know your house. At least, I now know which house to avoid the next time I’m in the vicinity."

    He said sorry. He said he was going to tell me the truth but slowly. He said he didn’t want to lose me and that he was serious when he said he was going to marry me.

    My response was, "Do me a favor. Please lose my number and miss your way to my place. I can’t be your third baby mama."

    End.

    DATE: SUNDAY 8TH JUNE 2025

    THEME: *THE ULTIMATE POWER.*

    MEMORIZE
    Luke 5:5
    And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

    READ
    Luke 5:4-9
    Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
    And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
    And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
    And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
    When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
    For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:

    THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: *When we submit to God's word over our lives, we have submitted to the ultimate in the universe.*

    MESSAGE
    The universe came into existence at the instance of God's spoken word.

    He literally spoke everything into existence and held them in place firmly by the same word. So powerful is the Word, that He Himself submits to His word.

    Everything is a product of words relatively.

    Every man or woman is a product of words. We all are products of the words we have listened to cumulatively over the years.

    The medical doctor was made by listening to certain words over a period of time. The lawyer was made by words. The Architect is a product of words. Our parents moulded our lives with words.

    And God moulded the universe by simply speaking.

    *In the realms of words, God's word is the ultimate.*

    The Bible puts it this way;
    Psalms 138:2 "I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."

    The word is the greatest revelation of God in the universe. He has always existed as the Word. He manifested as the Word. His word is His bond.

    And when we submit to God's word over our lives, we have submitted to the ultimate in the universe. There is nothing as great as the Word of God anywhere in the universe.

    The one who submits to God's word will be put in command of the world, because God rules and runs the world by His word.

    It appeared that Peter the fisherman understood this truth even as an unschooled fisherman that he was.

    As against his professional ethics in fishery, he hearkened to the word of the Son of God and his night was turned into day.
    Peter became an apostle of the Word because he was converted by the power of the word that worked in his life. He was a living witness of the wonders of God's word.

    *Beloved, everything changes and turns around at God's word.*

    It doesn't matter how bad your case may be today, there is hope for you if you will surrender your life to God through His word and begin to obey what He says.

    Make the word of God your greatest companion today, and your story will surely be rewritten. Shalom.

    ACTION STEPS
    1. Locate the scriptures that deals directly with your peculiar case and apply them to your life.
    2. Meditate on them regularly until they become part of your life.
    3. Act on them, speak them over your case until your change becomes obvious.

    PRAYERS
    Dear heavenly Father, thank you for today's devotional guide. Open my eyes that I might see wondrous things from your word. And let my own seasons of enjoying your wonders begin in Jesus name. Amen.

    REMEMBER
    *When we submit to God's word over our lives, we have submitted to the ultimate in the universe.*

    AUTHOR: JEDIDIAH DAVID

    DAILY READING: Isaiah 47-48; Galatians 1-2.

    HYMN
    " There shall be showers of blessing " :
    This is the promise of love ;
    There shall be seasons refreshing,
    Sent from the Saviour above.

    Show - - ers of blessing,
    Showers of blessing we need ;
    Mercy-drops round us are falling,
    But for the showers we plead.

    2
    " There shall be showers of blessing "
    Precious reviving again ;
    Over the hills and the valleys,
    Sound of abundance of rain.

    3
    " There shall be showers of blessing " :
    Send them upon us, O Lordl
    Grant to us now a refreshing ;
    Come, and now honour Thy Word.

    4
    " There shall be showers of blessing ":
    Oh that to-day they might fall,
    Now as to God we're confessing,
    Now as on Jesus we call !

*Beloved, everything changes and turns around at God's word.* It doesn't matter how bad your case may be today, there is hope for you if you will surrender your life to God through His word and begin to obey what He says. Make the word of God your greatest companion today, and your story will surely be rewritten. Shalom. ACTION STEPS 1. Locate the scriptures that deals directly with your peculiar case and apply them to your life. 2. Meditate on them regularly until they become part of your life. 3. Act on them, speak them over your case until your change becomes obvious. PRAYERS Dear heavenly Father, thank you for today's devotional guide. Open my eyes that I might see wondrous things from your word. And let my own seasons of enjoying your wonders begin in Jesus name. Amen. REMEMBER *When we submit to God's word over our lives, we have submitted to the ultimate in the universe.* AUTHOR: JEDIDIAH DAVID DAILY READING: Isaiah 47-48; Galatians 1-2. HYMN " There shall be showers of blessing " : This is the promise of love ; There shall be seasons refreshing, Sent from the Saviour above. Show - - ers of blessing, Showers of blessing we need ; Mercy-drops round us are falling, But for the showers we plead. 2 " There shall be showers of blessing " Precious reviving again ; Over the hills and the valleys, Sound of abundance of rain. 3 " There shall be showers of blessing " : Send them upon us, O Lordl Grant to us now a refreshing ; Come, and now honour Thy Word. 4 " There shall be showers of blessing ": Oh that to-day they might fall, Now as to God we're confessing, Now as on Jesus we call !
