What advice would you give to someone who is moving to Abuja, Nigeria? Abuja is the city of packaging! Before I moved to Abuja, i lived in Edo State, Benin City precisely. I do not know if you know Benin but it's a very quiet and “normal” city. I used to hear and read about “the Abuja lifestyle” and I always wondered why people did so much. Till i got a job and moved to Abuja. I will tell you a story and i will drop my points (or advice) within my story. I am an Architect by profession and for someone who had practiced mostly in Edo State and a few times in Lagos, bringing my practice to a mega city wasn't as easy as I envisioned. ••If you want to meet people, Abuja is the place but then to take the part, you have to look the part. I finally secured a meeting with a potential client I met online. We fixed a date to meet at a choice restaurant in Wuse II. ••Transportation is pretty cheap in Abuja. I live in Dutse. I took a taxi to Wuse market. It's #150 from Dutse, then i joined another to my destination, #100. When i got there, i came down from the taxi, looking sharp but a bit tired and my client was just driving in as well. I walked up to him, greeted him and introduced myself and he asked “Did your car break down?” I innocently replied and said “No sir, I do not have a car yet”. I noticed his disposition changed a bit. He didn't say anything more, we went in, had the meeting and we dispersed. He even offered to drop me. But he doesn't call me back. 2 weeks later, i call him and I ask about his job. He says “well, I'm not quite sure about you. I do not know an Architect who doesn't have a car. How would you go to site? Would you be jumping taxis all the time? I got another person who is Mobile. Maybe next time”. I was shocked. Mostly because where i was coming from, nobody had ever told me that i needed a car to design a brilliant structure for anyone. But i had learnt a lesson. ••If you have to live in Abuja, you MUST have a car, and a clean one at that. Its a necessity. Somehow, it affects how people look at you and weigh you. I secured another meeting with another client and this time i was wise enough to use an UBER. I didn't lose this job entirely, i secured only the design aspect but i lost the construction(also because I wasn't mobile). ••In Abuja, accommodation is cheap in extreme areas but a little more expensive in town. The problem with staying in these areas is that you don't get to meet a lot of people who would eventually add anything meaningful to your life, and then if you eventually meet someone in town, and you have meetings with the person, going back home can be very stressful. ••There is alot of fake life in Abuja, if you are not careful, you will fall a victim. ••There is night life in Abuja, its not a crazy as Lagos but then if you are someone who is an extrovert, you would discover some really nice places. ••Abuja will teach you naturally how to be classy. ••If you are someone who has low self esteem, you will be carried away. If you are someone who has “big eyes” you will indulge in corrupt practices- you will do anything to belong. When moving to Abuja, Come with the mindset of building connections, meet people that will change and grow your business and then take you to the next level of greatness. Beyond this, every other thing is a walkover!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: There is no rise without risk. Bulldogs have been confirmed to be one of the most tenacious animals on earth. Their nose tilts backward as an adaptation mechanism, so that if they hold onto anything, they will still have enough air to breathe. I heard a story about a little bulldog some time ago. The little bulldog would usually leave its compound to go and fight with a very big dog in another compound. The big dog would beat it, and it would return home for that day. The following day, the little bulldog would return for another round of fight, and the big dog would beat it as usual. The little bulldog got up and went home but still came back again the next day for yet another round of fight. This cycle continues until one day, the big dog started running when it sighted the small bulldog approaching. And I am sure, the big dog must be thinking, “I am not running because you are stronger than I; I am running because you are tireless, and I am wearied out. Okay, let me agree that you have won the fight so you can leave me alone.” You see, the little bulldog accepted the responsibility to become victorious, and nothing could stop it. It was indeed victorious. We live in a generation where many people don’t want to accept responsibility for anything. It is a symptom of mental bondage. When a person is mentally bound, he dodges challenges; he looks for a plastic life instead of a realistic life. That was the problem of the Israelites in the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land when they came out of Egypt. Every little challenge, they would complain to Moses. Their minds were so bound that they could not cope with the reality of a free life. When people are bound mentally, they avoid anything that challenges their ability. But the truth is, there is no reach without stretch, and there is no rise without risk. For an airplane to fly in the sky, it takes risks. If you must fly high in life, you must embrace risks. And if you must survive, you must be ready to fight. Beloved, even if a witch or a wizard is after your life, there is a degree of tenacity, violence, and iron will, that you can deploy and that witch or wizard will have no choice but to leave you alone. Beloved, accept the responsibility to fight and win. Accept the responsibility to go up and stay up. Remember this: There is no rise without risk. ASSIGNMENT(S): 1. Daily devotion for July 14th Off Witchcraft! Many also of those who had believed kept coming, confessing and disclosing their practices. And many of those who practiced magic brought their books together and began burning them in the sight of everyone; and they counted up the price of them and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord was growing mightily and prevailing. Acts 19:18-20 Luke mentions two movements here. It started with the believers who began to clean up their own lives, who came and divulged their hidden practices, confessing what they were doing in private. Obviously these were relatively new Christians and perhaps they had never thought that anything was wrong with these practices. But as they sat under the teaching of the apostle and saw the kingdom of God and how God longs to set people free, they began to see that what they had been doing — the astrology, the reliance on horoscopes, the belief in the influence of the stars, and all their other superstitious practices — had held them in bondage. These were the reasons why they remained weak and fearful, upset and distressed within themselves. So they began to confess all this and therefore to be free from their bondage. And that, in turn, precipitated another movement. The unbelievers around them in the city began to take a second look at their own practices. Many of them who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them when they became Christians under the influence and power of the gospel, and thus they were set free from their own deadly delusion. This illustrates how light breaks forth through the church. It is the church that is the light of the world. When the church begins to straighten out and clean up its life, and act and live as God has called people to do, then the world will begin to see itself as it is, and see what is wrong, and start straightening up and being freed from the practices that are darkening and blinding it. This is what happened here. They surrendered all their occult literature — and that was a costly thing to do. As they totaled up the value of these books and the various paraphernalia that was brought to be burned, it came to fifty-thousand pieces of silver. That is about ten thousand dollars, which was a tremendous sum in those days. It meant that these people were forsaking their livelihood. They were changing the total pattern of their lives, as they saw that they could no longer practice the occult and live as Christians too. It revealed how willing they were to be free from this terrible practice. Here in Ephesus, Paul and the other Christians, by the power of the truth, broke through this deception. They assaulted this stronghold of evil. They cracked it wide open, so that Luke says, The word of the Lord was growing mightily and prevailed. That is how a church ought to operate — in the power of the Spirit and by the authority of the Word. There are strongholds like this all around us today, bastions of darkness: drugs, witchcraft, homosexuality. How desperately this situation needs the assault of truth and of light. God longs to deliver people from these strongholds, and he has given the church this power. Father, I see powers of darkness holding people enthralled, locking them into misery and heartache, superstition and fear, hostility and emptiness. Lord, help me to understand that this is a very strategic time to live and to give myself to this exciting, glorious encounter against these powers of darkness.
