• Day 9 of the Salary Detox Challenge: Stop Being the Family ATM.

When I started working, my salary was N25,000. That same period, my Mom came to me with a list of bills that was so long.

She said two of my younger siblings just got admission same time and I must train them both.

I looked at her with love, but I told her:
“Mummy, I will train only one this year. Let me grow my capacity. I will take on the second next year. Let the second one learn a skill now."

She wasn’t happy. But I stood my ground.
Because if I didn’t bring structure to that moment, I would have drowned in expectations and poverty just to look like a good son when I can be a great son.

I also gave my Mom a fixed monthly allowance. And I warned her that when her allowance finishes, don’t call me. If your own money finishes before my salary comes, sit down and think and don’t think of me.

It sounds harsh, but let me tell you, It saved me and also saved my family, we would have still remained poor or average till today.

Sometimes the people depending on you don’t need more money, what they need from you is more structure.

You are not God, you are not an ATM and neither can you solve everybody’s money problems.

Even the time I bought my Mom a car, she was excited but started bringing up more bills and more expenses that weren't relevant, just to show that her son is making money.

I will wisper to her that “If this discipline brought us out of poverty, it will take us into wealth. Mom please, let us not break it now.”

That’s the mindset I have carried till today. When you see me disciplined about my finances, it didn't start today.

When you start earning salary, start to build your future with sense, and not spend with emotions. See ehh, you are not just spending your salary ooh, you are spending your destiny trying to carry people who will make you collapse.

And let me shock you, many of them that keep running to you don’t plan, don’t save, don’t build. Deep down, they know, “If anything happens, I will call you.”

My life changed the day I stopped being an ATM… and I became a Bank.

Banks don’t give money because you cried emotions. They ask questions. They will demand structure. They give with a plan and get returns.

Back then, I created what I call a Giving Budget. Every month, I set aside a fixed amount for support. When it finishes... that’s it.
This is my structure. I will not wreck my future to fix someone else’s...

So, for our Day 9 Challenge:
Set your boundary. Create a giving budget and stick to it. When the next call comes? Say with love:
“I am sorry, I have reached my limit. I have a project and I am building something bigger.

You have to do this because when you build properly, you will bless people from overflow and not from survival.

    Please share and comment.
