The former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, is dead. Rufai passed away on Thursday, 3rd July, 2025 after a prolonged illness.
During his playing career that lasted two decades, Rufai played in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.
At the Nation's cup, he tormented opponents in goal, denying them opportunities to edge pass Nigeria.
At his two time appearance at the World Cup, he was tormentor in Chief against Bulgaria, Spain, and Italy. His spectacular saves are moments to remember him for. He was such a dedicated and committed goal tender.
Sadly, his death concides with that of Portuguese national and Liverpool player, Diogo Jota, who had died early this morning with his younger brother in a motor accident in Spain.
