A DANGEROUS PRECEDENT.
I watched and read with dismay the recent events in Lagos State, where the names of some landmarks were changed in what I will call a childish political melodrama. It is unnecessary, as it shows those behind the idea as unwise.
Nigeria is a country that belongs to all of us, and it is not limited to Lagos State. Because some people claimed that Lagos is ‘no-man’s land’ during the last General Election in 2023, it does not mean we should cut them off or persecute them. No one should stoop so low as to do what was done recently. It is embarrassing and a low blow.
I have had hundreds of Igbos as clients, church members, friends, and tenants in my UK properties. I grew up with them in schools in Nigeria, and we are still friends. I also lived in the North and have many Hausa friends to date.
I do not like what I am seeing in Lagos State in what looks like an overt attack on the Igbos. If some of them made a mistake by making some negative comments during the 2023 general elections, it does not mean we should demonize people of Igbo extraction.
Everything in this life is temporary. Power, money, and fame are fleeting. Let us cooperate and love everyone, including those supporting a different political party. In a democracy, people should be free to support a party of their choice and their preferred candidates. Let us not stifle the opposition, and let us not destroy the government in our quest for power. It is anti-democratic, anti-national, and anti-development.
I call on the Governor of Lagos State, @jidesanwoolu, and @officialABAT to reverse the nonsense. We know the beginning of matters like this; we do not know where they will end.
