NTA Jos is the first TV station in Africa to broadcast programs in color.
Nigeria's television history began on October 31, 1959, with the launch of Western Nigerian Television (WNTV), the first TV station in Nigeria and Africa, south of the Sahara. This pioneering station was followed by Eastern Nigerian Television (ENTV) in 1960, Radio Television Kaduna (RTK) in 1962, and MidWest TV in 1972.
Two years later, on July 15, 1974, Benue-Plateau Television (BPTV) was launched, which would later become NTA Jos. This station made history on October 1, 1975, by becoming the first in West Africa to broadcast programs in color. In 1977, BPTV merged with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). Later, in February 2008, NTA Jos was upgraded to a Zonal Network Centre.
