• *GIVE UP, TO GET UP - MUYIWA AFOLABI MOTIVATION*

Life generally is about trade-offs. For anything you want, you must be willing to sacrifice for it. There is nothing really free I tell you.

Many today want better quality of life, more income, more time, better living standards, health, peace, happiness, security, friendships and quality relationships. These are all good things that of course would bring satisfaction and fulfilment. But the truth is they all come with a price tag.

You see, you can’t have it all without giving up something; you can’t eat your cake and have it. You must be willing to give something to get something. That’s the way life is.

Look at your life right now, what do you really want? What is that thing you’ll get that would really make you happy and satisfied?

You see, it’s important we correctly define what we actually want. If we are not very clear on what we want, we may end up chasing the wrong thing and becoming frustrated if eventually that thing does not bring the joy and satisfaction desired.

Many today confuse means with ends, processes with accomplishments, accesses with destinations, association with relationships. They can’t really tell the difference; unfortunately they still end up frustrated.

For example, money is not an end; it’s a means to an end. Many confuse these two ideals. Money itself is nothing without an end in mind or a defined purpose for it. I’ve heard many people say I want to be rich, very rich and they are willing to work very hard to get money. Eventually when they become well off, they are still unhappy and frustrated because they mistook money for an acquisition that would bring happiness, but money doesn’t really bring happiness and satisfaction, it is when it is used for a well pre-defined purpose that it brings satisfaction and real peace. When you spend money carelessly just to acquire unnecessary material things and for selfish ends, it makes you unhappy. There is what is called buyer remorse – a bad feeling that comes after buying something you realize you never really needed. Hence, you find a lot of rich frustrated people acting in lawlessness, oppressing and intimidating the so called less privilege. This is simply because they really don’t understand what money means and its real purpose. Tragically the cash then becomes a curse
Position in career is 100% about responsibility. It’s about what you should be doing and accomplishing. It’s about the role and function of the office. What does that office exist for? Why was it created? What are the nature, quality and degree of value expected from the position? What should the person in that position have the capacity to generate and contribute?

Another example is confusing association with relationships. A good, rewarding relationship must be well defined from the start. When people begin to associate without defining the reason and the essence, it most often ends up in crisis and hurt. Association without definition is not a relationship because all relationships must be well defined. When an association is well defined, then it becomes a relationship. An association may have a name tag and yet not be well defined. For example ‘we’re friends’ is an association tag but the relationship is yet to be defined. This is because there a different kinds of friendships. If the parties involved don’t define clearly this friendship, it’s crisis waiting to happen. For every association you must have a purpose and a definition. This definition will entail the details of your own responsibilities and expectations and the other party must also share the same picture in details as far as the relationship is concerned, this is when there can be real fulfilment and satisfaction in the relationship.

In career, many confuse position with power. In fact many can’t tell the difference between the purpose of a position and the purpose of the power tied to the position.

Position in career is 100% about responsibility. It’s about what you should be doing and accomplishing. It’s about the role and function of the office. What does that office exist for? Why was it created? What are the nature, quality and degree of value expected from the position? What should the person in that position have the capacity to generate and contribute
Positions generally are about work and responsibility, every position created in a company is for work to be done there. Now if the occupant of that position thinks more about hierarchy, levels, control, respect and class and can hardly see the work in the position as the main thing, there is going to be ineffectiveness and work crisis.

Such a one would be distracted and self-conscious, the work would cease to be priority and non- value-adding office matters would he prioritize.

Be it money, relationship or a high position in career, happiness and satisfaction would elude us after attaining, if our motives and intentions are wrongly defined.

Your motivation for a particular position or office in career should be primarily about the purpose of the office. You must be driven by a will to contribute through the office to the overall success of the business. You must come up with your strategies and plans on how to improve the capacity and value adding potentials of the office. You must be excited about engaging your creativity in making the office or position outstanding performance wise – setting new records, innovations and superior output.

It should never be about how many people now report to you, the size and beauty of your office, your official cars, perks and other benefits tied to the office. It should never be about power tussle, who rules, who controls and who’s in charge, it shouldn’t be about having your way and imposing your decision on everybody and the system in general.

You must be seen as gentle, reliable, self-controlled, thoughtful, considerate and a good listener. Because when you invest too much energy dealing with people instead of focusing on your responsibility and productivity, you’ll eventually malfunction
Never let anything you want be absolutely about yourself, your wants and your needs, let it be about a more encompassing reason. Get money for a good reason; gun for a position in your career for a reason bigger than you. Make sacrifices, give up selfish benefits and delay your gratification for the overall purpose and good of your enterprise. I assure you it’s never a loss; you will definitely gain it back.

Everything in life is paid for, if you don’t give up something for anything, it will not bring you any satisfaction or fulfilment. What you take, you can lose but what you earn remains yours.

Don’t join the band wagon of self-centred people – those that crave for instant benefits and instant gratification; take a good look around for people like that, they always loose out at the end; lonely, rejected and irrelevant. But people that sacrifice for a great purpose and for others always reap good reward at the end of the day, in cash, in friendships, relationships, in relevance, respect and heroism. Their names and deeds are never forgotten

You may not be required to sacrifice as much as Nelson Mandela had to, Just your little bit in your own little corner, catch the spirit.

  • Senior Lawyer, Ken Harris, has criticised suspended Senator for Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, for attempting to enforce a judgment she has already appealed, describing her actions as an attempt to “eat her cake and still have it”.

Harries made the remarks in a statement on Tuesday while reacting to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s presence at the National Assembly on Tuesday, where she reportedly attempted to enforce the July 4 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had ordered her recall.

He questioned whether her conduct, which he termed “taking the law into her own hands,” was an appropriate or lawful way to enforce a court ruling.

“In all my years of legal practice, I’ve never seen such a blatant display of lawlessness from someone who is supposed to be a federal lawmaker.

“How do you storm the National Assembly with a group of partisans under the guise of enforcing a judgment?”

“There are proper legal procedures for enforcing court judgments. It is not for individuals to create a crisis atmosphere and claim they are enforcing the law,” he added.

Reinstatement: Natasha to challenge N'Assembly action in higher court
Harries pointed out that Akpoti-Uduaghan had already filed an appeal against the same judgment about a week earlier, in which she challenged its validity and asked the Court of Appeal to overturn it.

He questioned the logic of her actions: “How can you seek to enforce a judgment you have openly rejected, appealed against, and asked to be set aside?

“Even if the judgment was still valid and enforceable, has she complied with all the orders contained in it, including the payment of N5 million and a public apology published in two newspapers and on her Facebook page?

“If she has failed to obey those aspects of the judgment, on what moral ground does she accuse the Senate leadership of lawlessness?” Harries asked.

He concluded by urging her legal team to properly advise her on upholding the rule of law.

“Anyone who seeks equity must hands in clear hands.

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has secured another significant global role.

The United States, France, the UK, China, Russia, and the United Nations have collectively appointed Goodluck Jonathan as the U.N. Global Crisis Envoy. This position mirrors the prestigious role once held by Tony Blair, the former Prime Minister of the UK, who served as the Middle East envoy for the United Nations, European Union, United States, and Russia.

Goodluck Jonathan will make history as the first African to assume the position of Head of State in this capacity, a groundbreaking milestone that underscores his influential status on the world stage.

His journey is remarkable: from lecturer to Commissioner, progressing to Deputy Governor, then Governor, advancing to Vice President, Acting President, and ultimately President. Now, he transitions from leader of a nation to a prominent figure on the global front.

    Congratulations H.E Sir.

  • FORMER Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, yesterday, explained why he and other members of the G5 Governors’ Forum opposed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 elections.

But in a push back, the former Vice President, described them as frustrated opportunists, who are searching for relevance.

Also, the PDP similarly, accused Ortom of acting out of personal interest rather than genuine concern for fairness and equity in the 2023 elections.

This came as a former Presidential aspirant, Mr Dele Momodu formally resigned from the PDP, citing what he described as the hijacking of the party by antidemocratic forces.

Ortom, a leading member of the G5 group of PDP governors, said the party’s failure to respect equity, fairness, and justice was the reason they chose to stand against it.

Ortom said the G5 had insisted that the presidency should shift to the South after eight years of Northern rule under President Muhammadu Buhari, but the PDP’s decision to field Atiku, also a Northerner, went against that principle.

“I acted as I did because we had expected the PDP to uphold equity, fairness, and justice, values I hold dear.

“When the majority of PDP members supported a Northern candidate, we deemed it unjust. We’ve always stood for equity, fairness, and justice, and we felt the presidency should alternate between the North and South for eight years each,” he said.

As chairman of the PDP’s zoning committee, Ortom noted that although the committee recommended an open contest, he personally pushed for a Southern candidate.

As chairman of the PDP’s zoning committee, Ortom noted that although the committee recommended an open contest, he personally pushed for a Southern candidate.

On the role of Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in the crisis, Ortom revealed, “We fought for Wike to be the PDP’s presidential candidate, but unfortunately, he didn’t secure the nomination. We also believed he should have been the running mate. I was part of the 20-member committee tasked with selecting a running mate, and 16 of us supported Wike. However, the candidate and the party leadership decided otherwise.”

Ortom defended supporting opposition candidates in 2023, saying politics was based on interests. “Politics revolves around interests. There’s no permanent enemy or friend in politics. It’s about protecting the interests of your community, your people, and yourself,” he stated.

He also addressed criticism that he and Wike tried to “destroy” the PDP by supporting opposition candidates. Ortom compared their strategy to that of other PDP members who backed Peter Obi of the Labour Party or Bola Tinubu of the APC.

“Peter Obi wasn’t in the PDP, but we agreed on a strategic partnership to demonstrate our influence. Some of us supported Peter Obi, others supported Tinubu, and we ended up with the current government. If God has given us President Bola Tinubu, why shouldn’t we support him?” Ortom added.

Looking to the 2027 elections, Ortom reaffirmed his support for a Southern presidential candidate and stressed the importance of respecting power rotation.

“My position is clear. I will support a Southern candidate. I see no reason to support a Northern candidate in 2027. By 2031, if someone from the South expresses interest in the presidency, I will still advocate for it to shift to the North. That’s based on my belief in equity and fairness.”

Ortom on criticism over alleged bias in Benue State politics, where he is accused of favouring the Tiv ethnic group, said: “I’ve fought for fairness and have advised other ethnic groups on what they need to do. I agree it’s unfair for one group to dominate the governorship since the creation of Benue State. However, politics also involves the majority. The Tiv people occupy Zones A and B, while the Idoma and Igede are in Zone C. It’s a matter of political dynamics, and I’ve encouraged other groups to organise and assert themselves.”

  • From Daily Times Nigeria comes this report

  • Extremely Graphic & Disturbing:
A Wahhabi extremist linked to ISIS remnants from a local tribe beheads a civilian in Suwayda. The horrifying act was filmed and shared across pro-ISIS Telegram channels — another brutal reminder of the barbarity rooted in ISIS ideology and Wahhabism.
