As we begin the countdown to the 2025 world malaria day commemoration, it is worthy to note that despite the fact that malaria remains a serious public health issue, according to the WHO world malaria report 2024, over 2.2 billion malaria cases and 12.7 million malaria deaths were averted globally in the period 2000–2023.

Most of the cases (79.7%) and deaths (94.2%) averted were in WHO Africa Region.
