Court Orders Nasarawa Govt To Reinstate Ex-NCARES CSDA Boss Or Pay ₦241m Compensation

The National Industrial Court sitting in Makurdi has delivered a landmark judgment in favor of Alhaji Maiwada Mamman Idris, the former General Manager of the Nasarawa State Community and Social Development Agency (N-CARES CSDA), a World Bank-supported initiative.
The court declared that Maiwada’s suspension and subsequent removal from office in 2018 were unlawful, unconstitutional, and a violation of due process.
In a strongly worded judgment, the court ordered the Nasarawa State Government to immediately reinstate Alhaji Maiwada as the legitimate General Manager of N-CARES CSDA. Alternatively, the government must pay him a total of ₦241 million in damages, covering loss of earnings, unlawful dismissal, and emotional distress.
Furthermore, the court directed the government to return a Toyota Prado Jeep, which was impounded at the time of his removal, to the rightful owner. The vehicle, with Chassis No. 0992078JTEBX9FJ5 and Registration No. NSW 171 NS, was part of his official entitlements.
The court also ordered the return of all other properties and documents lawfully belonging to him, which were taken during his controversial dismissal.
Currently, the General Manager’s position at N-CARES CSDA is occupied, and it remains unclear how the state government will respond to the ruling, whether by reinstating Alhaji Maiwada Mamman Idris or complying with the hefty compensation ordered by the court.
The ruling is seen as a bold affirmation of judicial protection for civil servants and project officers engaged in donor-supported development efforts.
