“Before my comedy career, I was a rapper. I started rapping when I was at the University of Benin, Nigeria. Then, UNIBEN students used to have very ‘bad mouths’. One of the days during our student week, I was on stage performing as a rapper for the students. It seemed like the students were not feeling my rap, & many of them started making noise & throwing !nsults & abüsing my generation.

“I felt really bad & früstrated. One of them said, comot from that stage with your long neck like ostrich. Man, I got p!ssed. I asked the DJ to stop playing the music & told my crew hyping me up to go down from the stage, let me face the students.

“Normally, as a UNIBEN student, my mouth no good too. So I stopped rapping, & started to throw jokes back at those !nsulting me. My words were very funny. And some students were now saying, guy you funny pass your music sef. Na comedy you suppose dey do no be music.

“That night I went back home & thought about it. That was when I decided to give comedy a chance. And the rest they say is history.” — Basketmouth
