China Begins Construction of World’s Largest Hydropower Dam in Tibet

China has launched construction of the Motuo Hydropower Station on the Yarlung Tsangpo river in Tibet. Once completed, it will surpass the Three Gorges Dam as the world’s largest, generating three times the energy.

The $1.67 billion project has raised environmental and geopolitical concerns in India and Bangladesh due to its location on a transboundary river.
