HIS LIFE STORY
I never thought I'd make it to the University.
My widowed mother and I were barely feeding in the village where we found ourselves after returning with almost nothing from Lagos, due to the "Fashola restructuring agenda". We had lost our home, and the market where my mom and I used to sell fufu at that time was demolished too.
What truly were the hopes that my dreams of going to the University was possible?
My mom, would sob nights unending, she'd lay hands on me at 4am while I pretended to be fast asleep, and at 5am, she'd get her torch light, head to our local church and sweep the premises twice a week. She never skipped.
I saw my mom love God despite the challenges we faced.
One day, in class during my final year in secondary school, I was seated by the window and my Compound master beaconed on me to follow him to the principal office, there i found out i was to represent my school at an event held to celebrate teachers in Akwa Ibom.
Long story short, I met my sponsor at that event, how God connected us, is still a mystery.
I passed WAEC and JAMB in one sitting.
Got admitted to study Accounting in the University of Calabar.
The first day I stepped into campus, I made a covenant with God.
I would be heard and God would be glorified.
I read for 8 hours everyday, in hunger, in tears, whatever the condition may have been.
I knew my story, and I was going to change that. I was going to earn myself a sit at the table of prominence, so I read and prayed.
I couldn't afford failure, I was here because someone I am not in anyway related to has helped me this far.
And there is a whole generation banking on me to succeed, I couldn't just fail.
I saw education as the the only tool by which I would break the generational poverty I was born into.
Today, by the mercies of God, I can rightly say, I have re-written the narrative.
This story, though incomplete, is sent to you to inform you that;
"Jesus is the best asset to possess."
Whatever the circumstances may be, have faith, pray, and make the necessary sacrifices, I assure you that Jesus is right about the corner, and would show up when you least expected.
To the undergraduates here, you can still make that grade, you just have to pay the price.
