China has just completed the world’s widest underwater roadway in only 110 days! Using a giant 17-metre tunnel boring machine called “Shanhe,” engineers built a massive underwater tunnel beneath the Yellow River in Jinan.
At 55.8 feet wide, this tunnel will carry 6 lanes of traffic and set a new global record for shield tunnel construction. Over 3 km of underwater tunnel was completed at lightning speed, averaging 16–18 metres per day.
