Niger : Largest known Mars rock on Earth sells for $5.3M at New York auction.
A Martian meteorite discovered in , weighing 25 kg, has been sold at a Sotheby's auction in New York for $5.3 million, setting a new record for the highest price paid for a piece of another planet. This meteorite, known as NWA 16788, is not only the most expensive but also the largest Martian meteorite ever found on Earth, exceeding the size of the next largest by 70%.
The meteorite was found in Niger's Sahara Desert in November 2023 and is believed to have been blasted from Mars by an asteroid impact. The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has called for the establishment of a citizen-oriented legislative framework to combat the rising threats of cybercrime and online harms, with a particular focus on the protection of women and young people.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ workshop organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, in collaboration with Advocacy for Policy and Innovation, API, Hon. Kalu presented compelling statistics highlighting a worrying surge in cyberbullying, hate speech, and the spread of misinformation. He emphasised that women and young people remain among the most vulnerable, frequently subjected to harassment and psychological abuse in the digital space.

Former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has initiated moves to reconcile warring factions within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Datti reportedly met with Julius Abure, the factional National Chairman of the party, and members of his camp in Abuja on Monday, where he pledged to lead efforts aimed at resolving the lingering crisis in the party.
