  • Here’s what happened in Waru‑Apo, Abuja, on the night of July 24, 2025:
    A coordinated security operation was underway targeting suspected cultists and drug dealers based on gathered intelligence in Bakasi Yimitu Village, Waru area of the FCT. During the operation, the suspects launched a fierce ambush on security personnel and local vigilantes, known as the Destiny Hunters. A Senior Police Officer, DSP Amos Biko, and the Commander of the vigilante group, Philibus, were critically injured. DSP Amos was later confirmed dead at Shekworhishama Hospital in Kabusa.
    In retaliation, the assailants attacked the Waru Police Outstation, vandalizing parts of the facility, destroying three patrol Hilux vehicles, and damaging six privately-owned cars. A joint response by police and vigilantes eventually quelled the unrest, and 19 suspects were arrested, with two seriously injured individuals later pronounced dead on arrival at Asokoro General Hospital.
