    1. Cardinal Bishops

    They hold the highest rank among the cardinals.
    Typically come from suburbicarian dioceses around Rome or are directly appointed by the Pope as cardinal bishops.

    2. Cardinal Priests
    Usually bishops of major dioceses around the world.
    Assigned to titular churches in Rome, but actually lead dioceses outside of Italy.

    Generally serve in the Roman Curia (the central government of the Catholic Church).
    Assigned to deaconries in Rome. After 10 years, they may opt to become cardinal priests.
