Legal Practitioner, John Mathew Resigns From PDP, Citing Severe Erosion Of Foundational Principles *** A prominent legal practitioner in Nasarawa State, John Abimiku Mathew, has tendered his resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. Mr. Mathew, a former Deputy Governorship candidate of the party, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 15. The letter, addressed to the chairman of the party in his Kagbu electoral ward of Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area, stated that the resignation was with immediate effect. He lamented that the foundational principles upon which the party was founded have been severely eroded recently, rendering his continued membership untenable.

Additionally, Obasanjo warned against the persistence of tribal politics, which he believes continues to fragment the nation and obstruct meaningful development. According to him, many political leaders are more concerned with personal gain than with genuine service to the country. Obasanjo also stated that Nigeria has disappointed not only its citizens but the global community as well. He called for a shift from ethnically driven leadership to a truly nationalistic approach. “We have had Fulani Nigerian presidents, Hausa Nigerian presidents, Yoruba Nigerian presidents,” he remarked, “but we have not yet had a true Nigerian president who represents all.” Until Nigeria breaks free from ethnically based politics and embraces inclusive leadership, Obasanjo warned, it will remain mired in the same set of challenges.
