“He got really mad at me, we went three months without speaking. I had a rough time. I was playing for PSG and he was at Barcelona. It was a Champions League match and back then, there were no fans in the stadium.

It was during the pandemic, so you could hear everything. We went up 2–1 and I said something to my teammates… and he heard it. That was my biggest mistake, he gets really mad. And when he does, it’s hard for him to let it go.

I texted him the next day, and again 15 days later. I told him, ‘It wasn’t directed at you, I didn’t mean to offend you.’ And he didn’t reply. He didn’t talk to me for three months. That match was in February, and we had national team duty in March, but those games got canceled, so we didn’t meet again until June, just before the Copa América.

Three months had passed without a word and I kept thinking, ‘Now I have to see how he reacts.’ But no, he’s a legend. We arrived at the training ground on the same day. I got there a little before him, and he showed up in my room. I was brushing my teeth, super early, and he splashed water at me and said: ‘What are you doing up so early?’
